Shavuot and Pentecost: An Intimate Interfaith Gathering
Join us for an intimate interfaith gathering to explore the dramatic interplay of Shavuot and Pentecost! The Jewish Festival of Shavuot and Christian Pentecost both celebrate powerful collective experiences of revelation. Shavuot celebrates the giving of Torah at Mt. Sinai. Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit to the disciples of Yeshua/Jesus who gathered after his death on the eve of Shavuot in Jerusalem.
Both festivals invite us into an experience of revelation that bonds an individual with a community. Come learn more as Rabbi Marcia Prager and Quaker educator Rebecca Mays guide a sharing adventure, guiding participants in a facilitated Christian-Jewish interfaith dialogue. Our conversations culminate with a festive dinner as Shavuot begins, including traditional Shavuot dairy dishes.

Souls Shot Portrait Project Dedication
Friends Ending Gun Violence Collaborative member Molly Grace Hicks (Old Haverford MM) will be sharing music for the dedication of the Souls Shot Portrait Project exhibition at Beth Am Israel Synagogue.
This project links fine artists with families or friends of victims of gun violence. The artists meet with the victims’ loved ones to learn about the lives they lived. The goal of the Souls Shot Portrait Project is to present diverse works that in some way relay graphically, or through narrative, the essence of the person being portrayed.
The mission is to bring attention to and memorialize the lives lost and tragically altered due to gun violence. Portraits have the unique ability to call out the souls and profoundly affect those who see them.
PYM Middle East Collaborative Endorses Apartheid-Free Pledge
In Spring 2023 the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) launched an initiative to have faith and secular communities pledge to be Apartheid-Free. With a goal of connecting like minded communities around issues of freedom from racism, discrimination, domination, and oppression, AFSC reached out to both US and international congregations and organizations. Specifically, AFSC’s framing of apartheid is taking up the current example of Palestinian freedom, justice, and equality in the face of ongoing oppression, violation of human rights, and legal and social discrimination.
