Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is a member of the National Council of Churches (NCC), a coalition of faith communities that works together on issues that affect people facing hardship. Through this affiliation, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting stays connected with other churches and shared efforts that reach beyond our region.

The NCC began in the 1950s and represents a wide network in the United States, often described as serving about 45 million people across more than 100,000 congregations. This shared fellowship gives Philadelphia Yearly Meeting another way to engage alongside other faith communities on matters of national concern.

Philadelphia Yearly Meeting staff attended the 189th Founders’ Day Celebration at Cheyney University, where they were welcomed in a spirit of partnership and mutual thriving. Founders’ Day honors Cheyney’s roots as the first Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in the United States and its enduring legacy of Black excellence. Quaker Scouts? Yep… | The Friends Committee on Scouting

The Religious Society of Friends sponsors awards that Scouting America, (used to be named Boy Scouts), Girl Scouts, Girl Guides and Campfire members may earn. These awards are intended as a means for the young boy or girl to learn about their faith and be recognized for their accomplishment. They have also been used as curriculum for First Day classes. The awards are not “official” SA/BSA or GSUSA awards, but are approved to wear on the uniform. They were created by Friends for our young Scouts. [Read more…] about Quaker Scouts? With geopolitical instability on the rise, in recent years global conflicts have continued to grow. A year ago, the Washington Post reported that 30 percent more people were killed in violent conflict in 2024 than in 2023, with conflict at its highest level since World War II. In 2026, despite the ceasefire in Gaza and the ongoing stalemate in Ukraine, stability seems, if anything, more elusive than ever. The US administration’s actions around South America and rhetoric over Greenland have only added to that tension. Quakers of Color International Archive is Now Housed at Haverford College Library’s Quaker and Special Collections

The BlackQuaker Project is an organization that celebrates the lives and contributions of Quakers of Color worldwide, and documents and addresses their concerns. It is an outreach and inreach ministry of Wellesley Friends Meeting, guided by the Quaker testimonies of Truth, Peace, Equality, Community, and Justice.

February 2026 | Joint Council Update

On Saturday, February 14, the three councils that support Philadelphia Yearly Meeting—Quaker Life Council, Administrative Council, and Nominating Council—held their meeting in the joint format. In this structure, all three councils meet together as one Joint Council to worship, discern, and conduct business collaboratively. Their practice is to share the minutes in a news story with the PYM community in the weeks following the meeting.

Each month, the council selects one item from its agenda or conversation to lift up. This month, the council is lifting up the continued discernment of how the these monthly joint meetings are going.

Apply to be a Quaker Voluntary Service Fellow

Last week, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting shared opportunities for Young Adult Friends with American Friends Service Committee and Friends Committee and Friends Committee on National Legislation.

A Friend from Caln Quarter and her Recent Letter to a Lancaster Newspaper

Faith D’Urbano on Febuary 4 submitted a letter to the Lancaster Newspaper’s editor addressing Senators Fetterman and McCormick regarding an imminent vote on funding the Department of Homeland Security. While hoping for the letter to be published, she shared it with Lancaster Friends Peace and Social Concerns Committee and Downingtown Friends Peace and Social Concerns members.

In Pursuit: Documentary Series | Press Release

On Sunday, February 22, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm A community screening of  In Pursuit: Philadelphia and the Making of America episode one will also take place at Pennsbury Manor State Park. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Friends may be interested in this documentary series as it examines American democracy through Philadelphia, where the nation’s founding ideals were debated, tested, and contested.

Love as Actions Vigils with American Friends Service Committee

This weekend, Friends will gather at locations throughout the country, including Trenton Friends Meeting in New Jersey, for the American Friends Service Committee’s (AFSC) Love as Action vigils. They will practice silent worship to bear witness to rising authoritarianism while building connections among passionate and engaged Friends. Originally, these vigils were planned for a defined period of time, but due to a strong response, they have been extended through April.
