Yardley Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends offers its spiritual support to Friend Jacob Hoopes. Jacob is the son of Tom Hoopes, a worshipper at Newtown Monthly Meeting, an educator at George School, and a past presenter of programs at Yardley Friends. Jacob and his family are also close friends of the Coscia family at our meeting.
Jacob was arrested at his home in Portland, Oregon, on Friday, July 25, 2025, and charged with aggravated assault against an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and damaging a federal building following a June 14 protest against ICE and the current presidential administration.
Yardley Friends stand in solidarity with Jacob, his family, friends, and the broader Quaker community. We condemn the use of militarized law enforcement that seeks to silence peaceful political protests through violent arrests and intimidation.
Yardley Friends will continue to hold Jacob and everyone affected by these events in the Light of Love and Peace.
Approved this First Day, 8 June 2025, at Meeting for Business.
