This past month, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting staff and volunteers worked hard to support and uplift our Quaker community. Here are just a few of their stories.
A Celebration of Anna T. Jeanes and her Legacy
PYM staff and volunteers from throughout our yearly meeting community organized an event to recognize the legacy and generosity of Anna T. Jeanes, a Quaker philanthropist whose support played a critical role in many social movements, including healthcare, education, and care for aging Friends. Dozens gathered at Stapeley Hall in Philadelphia, PA, to hear about how her giving continues to have an impact today and learn how we can follow in her footsteps through our own giving.
We are especially grateful to the volunteers and panelists who brought the event to life: Kay Sackett, Martin Ogletree, Raymond Pearce, Kerry Roeder, Mimi Blackwell, Richard Sanders and our Friends at Wesley Enhanced Living.
Rain, Laughter, and the Joy of Being Together
Last month, families from across PYM came together for our annual Spring Family Overnight at Camp Dark Waters in South Jersey. Not even rain or chilly weather could dampen the spirit. Children, parents, and even grandparents had the chance to climb, swing, paddle, play, and create. Sounds of children’s laughter and adult conversations filled the air, contributing to a Light-led, intergenerational community where all are welcomed. Thanks to the generous financial support of PYM meetings and Friends, PYM staff are able to organize these events and ensure they are accessible for Friends throughout the region.
Supporting Friends Supporting Meetings
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting offers a free online giving platform for Friends who want to donate to PYM Quaker meetings. PYM also covers all processing fees for these transactions so that 100% of Friends’ gifts go directly to the meeting. This past year alone, PYM proudly covered over $22,000 in online giving platform fees for PYM Quaker meetings using this service, allowing more than $554,000 in donations to reach meetings and lay the foundation for thriving spiritual communities.
