Last week, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting shared in our weekly newsletter, that in January, we sent out a press release that included the yearly meeting minute and described how Friends came into unity to take a public stand in support of LGBTQIA+ people.
Over the past year, meetings have shared their minutes on many kinds of concerns, leadings, and public matters around peace, equality, and integrity. Each one shared in a format the meeting approved in during business or through specific work in monthly and quarterly meetings. Friends draft these minutes, listen for how Spirit leads, and approve wording that reflects what the meeting believes or cares about.
Minutes also record many other kinds of meeting decisions, including recognition of a Friend’s religious service, a shared concern for peace and justice, or a memorial minute. These records show how discernment moves through body, and how meetings bring forward commitments.
If your meeting has approved a minute this year, you can share the text with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting at communications@pym.org, publish it through the PYM news feed, or submit information about a related event so it appears on the PYM calendar.
