Wilmington Monthly Meeting, Delaware, minutes its unity with Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, Baltimore, New England and New York Yearly Meetings, Adelphi and Richmond Monthly Meetings, and other affiliated groups in filing the lawsuit against the federal Department of Homeland Security on January 23, 2025. The suit seeks to deny the ability of federal immigration agents to enter our places of worship in order to take enforcement actions against any part of our community.
While Friends do not often turn to the legal system as a recourse, Spirit leads us to speak for the importance of including everyone who is drawn to worship with us. There is that of God in every person regardless of their ancestral homes, the language they speak, or the journey they have travelled to join us. We seek Truth through worship, and Spirit speaks through all of us. When the government seeks to limit our community and our worship, through fear, we must stand as we are called. All are welcome to worship with us in peace and safety.
The freedom to worship is fundamental to our history and practice as Friends, as it is to the founding principles of our country. We stand in solidarity with PYM and our neighbors.
