The 2018-2019 Children & Families Program: what’s next?
Note: All children need to have a Medical/Permission form filled out when registered. Thank you! This will be on file all year and is good for all Children’s events until Annual Sessions next July when there will be an updated form due.
UP NEXT: Spring Family Overnight May 4-5
May 4-5, 2019 at Camp Darkwaters in Medford, NJ
The Children and Families program will continue exploring our theme: “Who Is My Neighbor?” during Spring Family Overnight at Camp Dark Waters in Medford, NJ. What better way to discover who your neighbor is than by bringing them to Spring Family Overnight! We encourage all families to bring a friend or two — or more!
We’ll prepare our meals, do crafts and activities, and worship together. We’ll gather Saturday afternoon, with plenty of time for families to settle in their cabins, explore the camp, and engage in play and activities around our theme. We prepare dinner together and eat together as a family community. There will be canoeing and ropes course! In the evening we get cozy with s’mores under the starry sky and stories in front of the fire. After kids go to bed there will be space for parents to spend time with each other. On Sunday we will gather for breakfast and all-ages worship, and finish up with plenty of time for families to get home and prepare for the coming week!
June 15, 2019 at the Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia
The Community Playdate is an opportunity for fellowship and learning with our PYM Family community. The Please Touch Museum has a new exhibit (until September 2), “America to Zanzibar: Muslim Countries Near and Far” that fits well with our Children and Families theme for 2019 — welcoming our neighbors. So bring a neighbor or friend, and come play!
July 24-28, 2019 at The College of New Jersey
Children gather for Friendship, Community, and to explore their lives as Quakers. Our largest meeting for fellowship and business is a 5-day long residential gathering each year in the summer. A program for children infuses First Day School and Summer Camp. Also a time for Families to be in community together — there will be a Quaker Family Meetup and picnic! A fun time for all!
Earlier this year . . .
Update 1/7: we had an amazing time! Children and their families spoke to queries such as, “What does it mean to migrate or immigrate? What is it like for families? How do we welcome people?” We had tons of fun making tacos, stretching our bodies, listening deeply, and laughing loudly. See everyone at Spring Family Overnight!
January 5-6, 2019 at Camp Onas in Ottsville, PA
Family overnight is an intentional village for the purpose of being a family of Friends. These one-night events are designed for family schedules: the fun starts in the afternoon on Saturday and we’re heading home before lunch on Sunday. Join other families at Camp Onas for a one-night sleepover with lots of fellowship, games, communal cooking, hot cocoa and bedtime stories, and Giant First Day School on Sunday morning!
Spring Continuing Sessions
March 23, 2019 (location TBD — will be in the Reading, PA area)
We will gather for worship, workshops and play! There will be lots of multi-generational community time, and also time for kids to play with kids. Hope to see you there!
Quaker Family Meetup!
Update, 4/8: We had so much fun! Thanks, Friends! The next Quaker Parent Meetup will be at Annual Sessions in July
April 6, 2019 at Princeton Meeting
An afternoon of fellowship with other PYM Families! We’ll start with a celebration of multigenerational community, and then children will play and be in community with their peers, while people who are parents, grandparents, and caregivers are invited to worship sharing and fellowship together. And snacks. There will be snacks.
