This year’s One Pamphlet, One Yearly Meeting selection is Pendle Hill Pamphlet 495, Patterns of Racial Wounding and Racial Justice in Quaker Communities, by Lauren Brownlee (she/her) and Zenaida Peterson (they/them). Together, the authors invite Friends to consider how racial harm can occur within Quaker communities and what accountability, repair, and more loving relationships can ask of us.
As Friends across Philadelphia Yearly Meeting continue to read and begin to discuss the pamphlet, learning more about Lauren and Zenaida offers helpful context for the experiences and perspectives they bring to this conversation.

Lauren Brownlee
Lauren Brownlee serves as Deputy General Secretary at the Friends Committee on National Legislation. In this role she leads FCNL’s Governance, Community and Culture department and helps to steward FCNL’s shared anti-racism, anti-bias, justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion commitments. Lauren previously served on FCNL’s General Committee and Friends General Conference’s Central Committee, and currently serves as a co-clerk of the Quaker Coalition for Uprooting Racism Steering Committee and a co-clerk of the on the American Friends Service Committee’s Community, Equity, and Justice Board Committee. Lauren earned her B.A. in Classical Civilization and Greek from Wellesley College and her M.A. in Global, International, and Comparative History from Georgetown University. Before coming to FCNL, Lauren was the upper school head at Carolina Friends School and, before that, the director of social action at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart.
Zenaida Peterson
Zenaida Peterson (they/them) works as the Director of Equity and Empowerment and the Boston Coordinator at Quaker Voluntary Service where they served in 2016-2017. They have been a participant and associate of Nurturing Faithfulness which is multi-generational faith and leadership program. Zenaida serves on the Quaker Coalition for Uprooting Racism Steering Committee. They are an attender of Friends Meeting at Cambridge which is a part of New England Yearly Meeting and have been a guest teacher for Friends General Conference and Continuing Revolution.
