Spring 2026 Friend in Residence at Haverford College

January 23 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Free

Haverford College is pleased to announce that Rashid Darden will partner with Haverford College as the Spring 2026 Friend in Residence. Rashid is a Quaker, author, educator, and experienced non-profit administrator. He’s a member of Friends Meeting of Washington in the District of Columbia.

Haverford’s Friend in Residence program brings gifted Quakers with diverse experiences to campus to engage with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. This program enriches students’ educational experience, deepens appreciation for the College’s Quaker heritage, and strengthens its connections with the wider Quaker world.

Rashid carries a ministry of Restorative Quaker Design, an anti-racist method of solving complicated challenges through a unique mix of Quaker practice, restorative practices, and design thinking. He believes wholeheartedly in living an authentic, intersectional life at all times. As an out, black, gay man who has experienced chaos and order, wealth and poverty, urban bustle, and rural peace, he brings to his novels as well as his own life a sense of thoughtful disruption. Ultimately, he believes in the principles of everyday brotherhood—that is, the parts of ourselves which keep us connected to one another in meaningful ways.

Haverford College is a leading liberal arts undergraduate college located outside Philadelphia known for its academic rigor, Honor Code, and beautiful campus-arboretum.
