Meeting for Worship in Solidarity
Jacob Hoopes is a member of Newtown Meeting in Bucks Quarterly Meeting. After growing up as an active participant in our yearly meeting and attending several Quaker schools in PYM, he moved to the West Coast for college and still lives in Portland, Oregon. Jacob has taken part in protests supporting immigrant communities and expressing concerns about federal government policies.
On July 25, FBI agents arrested Jacob in Portland. Friends familiar with the circumstances have shared that the agents were heavily armed and that the arrest involved significant force. An arraignment is scheduled for Friday, August 15, at 1:30 PM local time in Portland (4:30 PM EDT). Friends, friends of Friends, and friends of Jacob are invited to join us in holding him in the Light during that time in a Zoom meeting for worship.
