Despite being a small meeting, there is a strong sense of vitality and strength at Makefield Meeting. That strength and vitality lie in our caring community, our deep worship, and our strong spiritual enrichment program.
Makefield Meeting currently has 19 members and one active attender; on average, five people attend meeting for worship on Sundays. We have no children attending meeting, but we were happy to welcome one new member in our midst last year. Some of our older members struggled with illness, injury, and loss and needed to re-assess their current living arrangements. Our Care and Concerns Committee provided support, comfort, and guidance in their discernment.
We resumed our tradition of holding a summer picnic, which allowed us to deepen our personal connections and build our sense of community. The picnic was attended by longtime members, family members, and our caretakers.
Worship at Makefield Meeting continues to be deep, with occasional vocal ministry, and closes with a reading of the sentiment board and after thoughts. The deep worship is supplemented by our regular Spiritual Enrichment (adult education) program where we take turns leading discussions on spiritual writings, articles, and podcasts from various sources (Pendle Hill, Friends Journal, QuakerSpeak, among others).
Makefield Meeting also hosts an informal spiritual sharing group where women share their spiritual states and pursuits. The group meets every two to three weeks, and members discuss a theme that reveals itself through their sharing process. Silent worship and holding each other in the Light are integral parts of the sessions. Members always leave feeling grateful for the time spent together within the group.
