Walking Through Time: Lessons from Pendle Hill’s Landscape: Past, Present, and Future

Join Lloyd Guindon, Pendle Hill’s Director of Facilities and Grounds, and Jennifer Walker, horticultural designer, arborist, and educator, for a walk through the campus landscape—past and present.
Using historic maps and firsthand observation, we’ll explore how the land has changed over time: what was planted with good intentions that we now recognize as invasive, which trees have stood for a century or more, and how our current decisions reflect new understandings of ecology, climate resilience, and care for community and habitat. We’ll discuss current efforts to reduce tree impacts on buildings while increasing wildlife habitat, and invite participants to consider how the long view of a place can guide wise stewardship today.
