Making for Simple Living: A 5-Week Ceramic Handbuilding Course

A weekly ceramics course for beginners to mindfully create pottery in community.
This five-week hand-building class will provide students of all levels with the skills to create food-safe cone 6 pottery suitable for use in the kitchen and at the dinner table. From pinched serving spoons to slab-built plates, students will learn to make ceramics for utility. In addition to pinching and slab building, students will learn coil-building, decorating, and glazing techniques.
The class will approach building through a mindful lens, being thoughtful of what we bring into the world, keeping in mind the Quaker practice of simplicity and sustainability. We will also reflect on what it means to come together for food, and students are welcome and encouraged to eat at the Pendle Hill dining room before class begins
All clay and tools will be available at the Pendle Hill studio for students, but bringing an apron is encouraged. All artistic levels are welcome, but this class will be structured for beginner students.
