Lancaster Meeting Hosts Talk: “The Dangers of Christian Nationalism”
October 22, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Lancaster Meeting has been under the burden of a concern on this topic, and sent a minute of concern to the Yearly Meeting in 2022.
From Dr. Carey: Christian nationalism is hardly new, but it poses a particular threat to religious freedom and even to democracy in the United States today. This session will explain what Christian nationalism is, why it is dangerous, and how people of good will can respond effectively to it.
Greg Carey is Acting Associate Dean and Professor of New Testament at Lancaster Theological Seminary. He holds a PhD from Vanderbilt University and is the author or co-editor of 11 books related to biblical interpretation, most recently, Death, the End of History, and Beyond: Eschatology in the Bible and Using Our Outside Voice: Public Biblical Interpretation. Greg is an active layperson in the United Church of Christ.
