DESCRIPTION:Want to explore our Quaker history up close and personal? Want to explore the beautiful grounds and majestic birds on the lush green lawns of Stenton House? Do you want to learn more about the legacy and historic impact of Dinah\, whom Quaker James Logan had enslaved and then manumitted in 1776\, the year of this nation’s founding? \nJoin us on June 14 for a family-friendly gathering of bird watching\, crafts\, and general rest and relaxation. Bird watching will be from 8:00-10:00 am\, and crafts and general house tours will be from 12:00-4:00 pm. This is a FREE Event! \nDid you know that the Logan Family was a part of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting? James Logan was the first secretary to William Penn\, and he and his family resided for generations at Stenton House in the Historic Germantown area of Philadelphia. While many Quakers are known for their abolitionist work\, the Logan family staunchly resisted the urgings of Friends to end their practice of enslavement. Now\, Stenton House\, through an incredible opportunity from the Pew Center for Arts and & Heritage\, has begun working on programs to better understand our Quaker legacy of Justice and the practice of Friends in Enslavement and Abolition Work in the Northern U.S. \nFriends of all ages are encouraged to gather at Stenton House (4601 N 18th Street\, Philadelphia\, PA 19140) on Saturday\, June 14\, 2025.
