SUMMARY:Journey Toward Wholeness
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a series of four weekend-long retreats over a seven month period to deep-dive into your soul’s journey\, cultivating the ground for hope and renewal in our lives\, our workplaces\, our communities\, and our world. \nAnd you? When will you begin that long journey into yourself?”  -Rumi  \nIn every season of life\, there is a call to make sense of our place in the world\, to discover our gifts and ways of being of service\, to live into the highest vision of which we are capable\, to figure out what is ours to do and find a way to do it. How do we discern that call in these tumultuous times? In the midst of political division\, war\, environmental destruction\, and attacks on the most vulnerable members of our communities\, we are pulled in many directions and may be tempted to run away or withdraw into ourselves. What can we offer our beautiful\, needful world? How can we find the quiet power and groundedness that comes from listening to our souls?  \nIn order to hear the still\, small voice within\, we need community. Parker Palmer writes that “If we are willing to embrace the challenge of becoming whole\, we cannot embrace it alone… we need trustworthy relationships and tenacious communities of support.” In The Journey Toward Wholeness\, a four-retreat series based on the work of Parker Palmer and the Center for Courage and Renewal\, we will create such a community—– a Circle of Trust®. Guided by core principles\, including the belief that everyone has an inner teacher– a reliable and abiding internal source of wisdom– we will create a trustworthy\, welcoming space that honors the integrity and identity of each person.   \nWe will experience the power of stories; practice the skills of deep listening\, asking open and honest questions\, and spiritual accompaniment; explore “shadow” and paradox as sources of insight; and embrace nature as a teacher. We will be invited to consider the questions of our lives using the cycles and metaphors of the seasons\, as well as poetry\, music\, art\, silence\, and reflective practices as doorways for inspiration and transformation.   \nA centerpiece of each retreat will be an opportunity to participate in Clearness Committees\, a process of deep discernment adapted from Quaker practices. All of this takes place amidst the natural beauty and rhythms of community life at Pendle Hill\, which provide an ideal seedbed to inspire\, nourish\, and deepen this work.  \nWhat questions are you holding in this season? Join us for a deep dive into your soul’s journey\, cultivating the ground for hope and renewal in our lives\, our workplaces\, our communities\, and our world.

SUMMARY:Finding Your Way: A Spring Term in Resident Community
DESCRIPTION:An on-campus resident student program for those seeking space and community in which to share the daily rhythm of learning\, work\, and worship. \nReset\, reconnect\, and rejuvenate on 24 wooded acres outside of Philadelphia. In a moment when the world feels exhausted\, fractured\, and depleted\, Pendle Hill’s Spring Term in Resident Community offers a greenhouse – a protected space to bring ideas\, questions\, and other “seeds” – to nurture these visions into being. Attend one or both sessions as you’re led. \nSession I: Discerning Our Calls\,  February 27 – March 20 \nAre you in a moment of transition or an inflection point in your life? Taking time apart from the rapidly changing world\, we will rest in the eternal and seek greater clarity about how the Spirit is calling us to live and work. Together we will pause to center down\, practice methods of spiritual discernment\, and support each other in being attentive to guidance that comes both from within and without. We will cultivate skills for deep listening\, including attention to our dreams\, as well as Quaker practices of discernment\, such as the clearness committee and faithfulness groups. \nIn the classroom\, we will sift through our various motivations and identify those that are divinely inspired\, using journal writing and sharing with others in pairs and small groups\, and informally with the wider community. Experiential exercises will help us hone our skills in helping each other toward greater clarity and faithfulness. During the three-week course\, each person will have the opportunity to be the focus of a faithfulness group session as well as participate in supporting others\, helping all of us to go forward with renewed clarity and courage. \nThe classroom time will be supported and complemented by Pendle Hill’s rhythms of communal worship and meals\, as well as opportunities for creative exploration in the art studio\, mindful work supporting the campus and collective practices of rest and reflection. \nSession II: Practice in Community\, March 21 – April 17 \nParticipate in Pendle Hill’s traditional rhythm of worship\, learning\, work\, and rest in community\, with opportunities to register for afternoon classes and to practice in faithfulness groups.

SUMMARY:Becoming New: A Weekend of Quaker Embodied Practice
DESCRIPTION:A weekend retreat exploring a Quaker approach to embodied spirituality. \nWhether you come from a Quaker\, Christian\, interfaith\, or secular background\, you are invited to come experience the season’s themes of death\, rebirth\, and new life as continually unfolding living realities.  This retreat is a deep dive into the body-based mysticism of the early Friends. \nBefore persecution prompted a cultural “cleansing” that erased the quaking body from our tradition\, the first generation of Quakers understood the body as an instrument for hearing and following the promptings of the indwelling Spirit. Their forms of embodied worship\, discernment\, and social resistance dissolved the boundary between contemplation and social action\, giving rise to a powerful movement for change at a time of political upheaval that bears striking similarities to our own. Together we’ll experiment with revitalizing these early Quaker body-based practices\, exploring how they might find fresh expression in this historical moment when we need them more than ever. \nWhat might become possible if we learned once again to trust the body’s capacity for spiritual perception?  How might embodied awareness deepen both our personal transformation and our collective response to the challenges of our time? \nThe weekend unfolds through the central Easter theme of rebirth\, as encoded in early Quaker metaphor: \nFriday evening: Sensing The Seed – embodied centering\, grounding\, and an introduction to dreamwork to discover the hidden life already stirring within\nSaturday morning: Drawing Living Water – gentle\, accessible movement that softens\, aerates\, and restores the inner ground\, creating space for new growth\nSaturday afternoon: Opening the Bud – breathwork and creative practice that explore the body’s currents of vitality\, opening to the wellspring within and the grace that rains down from beyond ourselves\nSaturday evening: Drawing Living Water – Quaker chanting that invites inner leadings to emerge and take shape in the outside world\nSunday morning: Inviting the Light – embodied practices of contemplation\, wayfinding\, and communal discernment that open to the clarifying\, purifying\, and guiding light \nThis retreat is offered in collaboration with The Center for Centering\, a community for spiritual seekers longing to explore how embodied awareness and responsive presence might open new possibilities for personal and collective transformation. No prior experience with Quakerism or somatic practice is needed—only curiosity\, openness\, and a willingness to listen deeply to the wisdom of the body. Come explore what it is to encounter the sacred from the inside out.

SUMMARY:Mindfulness: The Practice of Presence
DESCRIPTION:A seven-day mindfulness meditation retreat on campus with Mary Grace Orr\, Anne Briggs\, and Rebecca Kronlage.   \nThis retreat\, based on the simple mindfulness and lovingkindness practices of the Buddha\, is intended to be such a refuge. This silent retreat (i.e. no social conversation) will have periods of sitting and walking meditation\, daily loving kindness practice\, formal teachings\, and practice discussions with the teachers.  It is suitable for both beginners and experienced students and for people of all faith traditions.  \nPlease note\, this price does not include any honoraria for the leaders. Pendle Hill supports Mary Grace in her discernment that in lieu of cash honoraria\, she welcomes participants into the Dana Practice for this program. The fee for this retreat does not include any reimbursement for the teachers of the retreat. As some of you are aware\, this is based in the Buddhist tradition of the practice of “dana\,” or generosity. The Buddha teaches that generosity is one of the central pillars of the spiritual life. Buddhist teachings are offered without a price tag\, as they are considered to be priceless. This practice of generosity around teaching creates a system of openhandedness\, of interdependence between teachers and students. It is wonderful for me to be able to offer teachings in this way. At the end of the retreat\, you will have an opportunity to engage in this practice of generosity and to offer “dana” (a donation) for the teachings as a way to support the teachers of this retreat. There is no suggested amount or normal amount — that is left entirely to your heart and the reality of your bank account. We will give you the details at the end of the retreat. You may bring a check or cash\, and there will also be information for those who use Venmo.

SUMMARY:Beyond Diversity 101 – Whole System Transformation Series
DESCRIPTION:A four-part workshop series focused on cultivating the capacity to consciously interrupt patterns of oppression\, recognize energetic shifts within systems\, and move skillfully with emerging possibilities to create transformation within organizations\, communities\, and ourselves.  \nTogether we cultivate the capacity to consciously interrupt patterns of oppression\, recognize energetic shifts within systems\, and move skillfully with emerging possibilities rather than reacting from habit. Participants deepen understanding\, strengthen practical skills\, and learn through direct application\, reflection\, and supportive feedback.  \nThroughout the series\, cohort members work\, practice\, create\, and play together while developing conscious creator-ship—learning to know themselves as creators within communities of co-creators.   \nWhatever your particular calling or medicine\, making the leap from dominator culture toward a lived experience of interconnection\, shared responsibility\, and collective liberation requires more than good intentions. It calls for expanded imagination\, embodied practice\, courageous action\, and continual inner transformation.  \nWhile we are living through a time of profound societal crisis\, we are also witnessing beautiful expressions of human creativity\, resistance\, mutual care\, and possibility. As many continue to cling to systems rooted in separation and domination\, others are being called not only to dismantle those systems but also to boldly imagine\, build\, and sustain communities grounded in radical truth\, radical love\, and shared liberation.  \nLearn more about Whole Systems Transformation or visit Beyond Diversity 101’s site for more details about the program.
