SUMMARY:Dreaming Sanctuary: An Intergenerational LBGTQ+ Gathering
DESCRIPTION:An intergenerational LGBTQ+ gathering for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building.  \nThis retreat will offer a refuge space for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building at Pendle Hill\, a Quaker center open to all for retreat\, learning\, and community. This gathering will bring together LGBTQ+ participants from a range of ages and spiritual backgrounds\, providing an opportunity to break bread together\, recenter in openness to the Spirit\, and create new connections as we celebrate what nourishes and sustains us across the generations.  \nWe will explore inherited spiritual practices that sustained our queer ancestors\, including the fundamental practice of building shared spiritual community.  \nSee the draft schedule here.  \nHaverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Curator of Quaker Collections\, Mary Crauderueff\, has started an oral history project interviewing queer Quakers. Queer history and stories are dramatically underrepresented in most archives\, and in particular in our archives. This project will bring concrete material into the collections\, including putting materials in our online\, public repository (see our long-form interviews here: Queer Quakers Oral History Project). We acknowledge the diverse spectrum of experiences within the queer Quaker community and will actively work towards representative coverage.    \nWe are honored to be invited to share time with you at Dreaming Sanctuary to conduct 15-20 minute interviews that will be part of this larger project. Participants need to be 18+\, and who either currently or previously have identified as Quaker and LGBTQIA+.

SUMMARY:Justice from the Inside Up
DESCRIPTION:Join visionary leaders for a powerful introduction to the practice of restorative justice.    \nRestorative justice (“RJ”) is a return to our roots\, an indigenous way of addressing harm that directly involves those impacted by it\, including those who caused it. It is a communal way of doing justice that centers the dignity of all\, our interconnectedness\, and active accountability.  Restorative justice is heart and spirit work. Through storytelling\, people can connect on a deeper level\, where inter and intrapersonal transformation happens. The values of restorative justice resonate with many\, if not all\, faith traditions.  \nThis program invites organizers\, faith communities\, learners\, and teachers into the practice of restorative justice. Our pedagogy draws knowledge from participants through learning experiences that include brainstorming\, art\, lots of movement\, small and large group dialogue\, short videos\, and community-building circles.  This workshop encourages participants to tap into their own wisdom to explore the concepts of justice\, harm\, and accountability from a relational perspective\, while being introduced to RJ values\, principles\, and practices.  \nA certificate of completion will be provided at the conclusion of the program.

DESCRIPTION:A spiritual retreat based on the monastic practice of worshiping\, working\, and studying while experiencing solitude and community living. \nWhat spiritual practices sustain you?\nWhat does prayer/contemplation mean in your life? \nHow do you support yourself and others during challenging times? \nAre you creating space for spiritual learning? \nHow does your spiritual practice permeate your way of being in the world?    \nThe term kairos (καιρός) is an ancient Greek word describing an opportune and decisive moment; a combination of time and place that generates the ideal environment for actions\, words\, and/or movements.    \nThis retreat is designed to nurture the Effetá in our life – the movement of being attentive to the Spirit in our challenging world. Participants will have an opportunity to reconnect with one another as we explore and nurture our experience of being in relationship with the Divine.  In this space\, we will be invited to contemplate and reflect on how my/our openness to the Spirit is manifested in my/our presence in the world.   \nWe will explore practice and queries that will support participants in their spiritual journey as we individually and collectively build in the importance of hope and love in time of adversity. Participants will create a unique space for spiritual growth by combining key practices from Quaker and other faith traditions\, and they will have the opportunity to engage in contemplative praying of the Scriptures as they experience the deep practice of worship sharing.

DESCRIPTION:An interfaith gathering and dinner exploring Jewish and Christian interpretations of the Psalms and the Beatitudes.  \nJesus of Nazareth has often been called by Christian scholars like Amy Jill Levine\, the world‘s “most misunderstood Jew.” When his teachings are viewed through Jewish and Quaker lenses\, his very Jewish teachings can emerge as powerful inspiration for both of our communities. \nJoin Rabbi Marcia Prager and Quaker educator Rebecca Mays as they invite you into their multi-decade adventure in Jewish-Christian Quaker dialogue. In early June\, bird breeding activity reaches a crescendo and we are likely to see and hear evidence of nesting from a number of species. How do Pendle Hill’s plants\, trees\, and overall ecosystem support a healthy and varied bird life? What can I do to improve the bird habitat in my own backyard and/or neighborhood and what other actions might I take to support local bird life? Finally\, why is it important to do so? How can an enhanced awareness of birds improve our lives and in turn the lives of birds?

SUMMARY:Non-Creedal Genders: Quaker Spirituality and A Love Letter to Trans Kids
DESCRIPTION:A First Monday Lecture with Kody Gabriel.  \nDrawing from their experience of Quaker spirituality\, youth worker and transgender advocate Kody Gabriel will share a love letter to trans young people and the inner child in gender-nonconforming adults. Their talk will explore the spiritual gifts of trans identity\, put Quaker theology and gender liberation in dialogue\, and offer practices of resilience for keeping ourselves whole in the face of political and social oppression. Kody’s talk will center and speak to the experiences of trans and gender-nonconforming people. People of all gender identities and experiences are welcome to attend.   \nKody will give this lecture from the Albuquerque Friends Meetinghouse in Albuquerque\, New Mexico. SUMMARY:Writing as a Spiritual Practice with Emily Savin
DESCRIPTION:An afternoon workshop using writing to learn from the divine spark in ourselves and others\, with Emily Savin.     \nIn this workshop we will learn from the divine spark in ourselves\, and bear witness to that in others\, through guided writing exercises in a playful and worshipful space. Writing as a spiritual practice is an individual act that can open us up to unexpected wisdom from within. Like silent worship\, it takes on beautiful new dimensions in community. Witnessing each other’s writing allows us to glimpse the that-of-God in one another and in ourselves\, an experience that can be inspiring\, moving\, funny\, and surprising. Many of us carry wounding around writing\, and have had our creativity damaged by critical words and red ink “corrections.” Reluctant writers are particularly invited to this workshop\, as this is a space in which anxious writers often find confidence. Other people who are warmly invited include confident writers\, joyful writers\, blocked writers\, writers who don’t dare call themselves writers\, neurodivergent writers\, writers whose first language is not English\, writers who don’t like to sit still\, and you.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special day of fellowship and exploration at Pendle Hill on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026! This gathering is limited to 30 participants and will include worship\, a guided campus tour\, shared lunch\, and a variety of afternoon activities. Participants will have the opportunity to choose from offerings such as mindfulness training\, hymn singing\, conversation with resident scholars\, art projects\, and more. We’ll also enjoy time together for questions\, reflection\, and closing worship. Please note that activity offerings are subject to change as plans are finalized.  \nThe day begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Barn and concludes around 4:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided in the Main House\, and the bookstore will be open during free time (as volunteer availability allows). The campus tour will take place rain or shine (except in the case of lightning). \nPlease register by April 19 so we can plan appropriately for food and activities.
