At a recent Meeting for Business, Mt. Holly Quakers were asked to reflect
upon the spiritual state of our meeting. Friends felt grateful for our meeting’s
caring of others, sense of service, and respect for our differences while being
cautious about the frustration of having too much to do.
We engage regularly in outreach to our Mt. Holly community through
events of our own and just being open during events sponsored by others.
People who come inside our building are interested in the history, but also are
remarkably curious about what it is Quakers believe. This always proves difficult
to convey in a short speech and perhaps is best described as being an
experience rather than a list of prescribed beliefs. New attenders will be drawn
in because they experience a deepened spiritual awareness as well as a loving
community that affects them in a positive way.
Our members embrace optimism for our future as a meeting. We continue
to believe our living Quaker faith is an attractive modern expression of our
Christian heritage. We embrace diversity, climate awareness, freedom, social
justice, and conflict resolution. We hope the Light of God which comes from
within shines brightly to the outside through our building’s 250 year old window
panes.
