How are we changing? Our use of technology serves our fierce desire to connect. We feel more together whether in all-zoom or hybrid meetings. As an explicitly senior community, we look to new members to make up for diminishments of energy and acuity. Some of our programs and social gatherings have been more outreach-oriented, attracting Friends from other Meetings and non Friends.
We are all affected by fear, which has negative consequences. As Friends we are becoming more political than spiritual. In the larger community some fellow residents are hiding their party affiliation from the dominant liberalism at Kendal. Some feel unwelcome. Some are fearing that friends and relatives will suffer directly from anti LGBT actions by the government.
We need to find ways to share our fears and understand the fears of others. We are striving to maintain our spiritual grounding. We are also struggling to discern what we are called to do.
We endeavor to listen, learn, and take courage from the witness of Friends in the Wider World of Quakers.
