{"id":133,"date":"2021-07-26T06:43:44","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T06:43:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pym.org\/spiritual-formation-program-collaborative\/?page_id=133"},"modified":"2021-07-26T10:44:56","modified_gmt":"2021-07-26T10:44:56","slug":"retreats-goals-expectations-assumptions","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.pym.org\/spiritual-formation-program-collaborative\/for-facilitators\/retreats\/retreats-goals-expectations-assumptions\/","title":{"rendered":"Goals &#8211; All 3 Retreats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><em><b><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">Opening Retreat<\/span><\/b><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">Begin to build a community that will nurture our individual and corporate spiritual growth.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">\u2014a particular nine-month community<br \/>\n\u2014building on a lifelong community of Friends<br \/>\nAssumption: we will be nurturers of each other, and our lives will change, and our Meetings, Quarterly Meeting, Yearly Meeting, community and world will benefit.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">Create a space in which we can tell the story of our spiritual journey to each other, and expect to have our story listened to tenderly.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">Assumptions: that we will strive to speak our authentic truth plainly, and experientially, using the words with which we are comfortable. That we will struggle to listen through the words of others to hear the experiential truth behind them.<br \/>\n(Douglas Steere: Holy listening\u2014to \u201clisten\u201d another\u2019s soul into life, into a condition of disclosure and discovery, may be almost the greatest service that any human being ever performs for another.)<br \/>\nExpectation: We will hold what happens in confidentiality.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">We will deepen our intention with regards to the divine, and commit to finding spiritual practices that supports our intention.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">We will support and hold each other accountable throughout the nine months, and possibly beyond, in this effort.<br \/>\nAssumption: the more fully that folks participate, the more valuable the experience will be for all. Likewise, the experience of others will be made less valuable when individuals only partly fulfill their commitment to the program.<br \/>\nExpectation: folks will make every effort to attend all sessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;line-height: 107%;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\"><b>We will form small spiritual friendship\/accountability groups and create a schedule for meetings. <\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: #333333;font-family: 'Georgia',serif;font-size: 12pt\">We will think together about how these groups can function effectively. We will take responsibility to regularly evaluate and corporately work to improve the functioning of these groups.
