Early Quaker – Indigenous People’s Relationships

Sunday, November 18, 2018
Religious Education Series Continues
Quakers and Indigenous Peoples:
Exploring Relationships

9:30 – 10:30 am Meeting for Worship
10:45 – 11:45 am First Session of Five

Location: London Grove Friends Meeting
500 West Street Road and Newark Road
Kennett Square, PA 19348

Each session in the series offers a few brief stories, related information from past and present, and open time for questioning/sharing/seeking.  Interested youth, approximately 9 and up, are welcome to join with adults at the sessions.  Child care available for younger ages.

The five sessions:
   September 23:  Exploring Ceremony
November 18:  Principal Chief Dennis Coker

   November 26:  Sustainability
   February 17:  Stories and Culture
   March 17:  Education
   May 25:  Healing

Note: The November 18th session is special – we welcome Chief Dennis Coker, Principal Chief of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware to speak.  This is the 200th Anniversary of 11/18/1818, when Quarterly Meeting was held for the FIRST time in the new, large London Grove Meetinghouse whose construction was supported across Western Quarter.   Bring your ears, hearts and friends.

These sessions come out of the experiences of Gail Newbold, a participant in the workshop “Indigenous and Quakers as Allies,” at Friends General Conference Gathering (July 2018), and the interests of Susanna Davison and Karen-Lee Brofee, attendees of Pendle Hill Conference “Truth and Healing” (May 2018).
