Spring Continuing Sessions is a one-day event bringing together our PYM community for worship, witness, business, and fellowship. March 23 is a day of action and reflection — We hope families and youth will join us! More information below about morning program choices, transportation, and what to bring:

Register for child care and Youth Programs on the same form as adult registration.  (Registration pages for young people are at the end of the form.)

Schedule for the day:

*Child care will be available all day, 10am-4pm, at Reading Meeting for the littlest Friends (infant to pre-K). The meetinghouse and Berks Detention Center are a 15 minute drive from each other, and parents can choose to drop off children at the meeting and attend the action.

10:00am — Two choices of spirit-led witness

1. Meet at Berks Detention Center for action “Seeking Faithfulness — End Family Detention” *

2. Alternate multigenerational witness activities at Reading Meeting (and child care). **

*The action at Berks will take the form of extended, multi-generational, semi-programmed worship. Children can attend with their family; Middle School Friends and Young Friends will be in the care of Youth Programs staff on site. Contributions from Young Adult Friends and our partners at the Shut Down Berks Interfaith Witness, as well as music, will ground and structure our time together. Much of the action will be devoted to deep, centered silence, out of which all are invited to bring messages of prayer, protest, and all the other energetic movements of the Spirit that rise among us. Learn more here.

**The program at Reading Meeting 10am-12pm will focus on “Love Thy Neighbor” and how we welcome one another in our homes, schools and work, meeting communities, and PYM. There will be stories, sharing, art and music.

12:00pm — Lunch! All children, youth, families are invited to Reading Meeting for lunch together. Youth Programs staff will provide sandwich making for those who sign up — see registration form. You can also bring your own bag lunch and join for fellowship! (The light lunch provided by Youth Programs will not be able to accommodate vegan, gluten-free or other dietary needs; Friends who require those choices should bring their own lunch.)

1:00-4:00pm — Youth Programs at Reading Meeting for Children K-5, Middle School Friends, and Young Friends (and child care). The afternoon program will include reflection on the morning with same-age groups, and games, art, and fun all together! The adult community will be meeting from 1-4pm at the Miller Center for the Arts for Meeting for Business. The Miller Center is a 10 minute walk and 5 minute drive from Reading Meeting.

What to Bring:

  • Seasonally appropriate clothing. We will be outside for part of the day. Be prepared for the possibility of rain!
  • Lunch, if bringing your own; water bottle
  • Young Children in child care: snacks, bottles/cups, diapers etc., a change of clothing marked for your child.
  • Don’t forget the Medical/Permission form for all youth, if you have not submitted since July 2018.
  • Young Friends also need to have completed the Young Friends Guidelines Affirmation just one time since joining YFs.

Transportation:

Let’s CARPOOL! When you register for the event, the Youth Engagement Coordinator will contact you about carpooling possibilities. If you can offer rides to others, that would be excellent!

Young Adult Friends (including those with children) can register for no-cost bus transport from Philadelphia to BCRC, plus lunch for the day of the action. For Friends who are driving themselves, parking is available at the buildings across the road and down the hill from the center behind the Berksheim Nursing Home.
