Young Friends will spend Winter Gathering in fellowship at Green Street Monthly Meeting. Lori and Aeryn are excited to build new traditions with Young Friends. The coziness starts Friday night with games and fireside snacks. Will Young Friends teach the new facilitators to play Wink? We’ve heard Lori has never played and this must be addressed.
We’ll be exploring activism at this gathering. Young people across the country have been igniting and driving activist movements in recent years. Where do we fit in? There is a long history of activism among Friends. Benjamin Lay and Lucretia Mott are well known to have been radical social activists. But what about Young Friends today? What can we learn from our Quaker activist ancestors as we work to build a more just world now?
Workshop activities will be led by Lisa Jo Epstein. Lisa Jo is the Executive Director of Just Act, based in Germantown. Just Act is a theatre-based catalyst for healing, change and activism to build a just world. Lisa Jo uses theater-based approaches to help young people understand and experience what community-based social change can look and feel like. Come to Winter Gathering to join the conversation!
