Most of the workshop content is relevant to children of any race. The strategies, analysis and resources will be of value to teachers, parents, family and community members of all races. We offer information and guidance on how to prepare white children in our increasingly multiracial society. The workshop encourages the development of an anti-racist outlook in all children, and focuses on the particular experience of raising white children.
The workshop focuses on the work of raising white anti-racists because the vast majority of white families and educators do not teach children about race and racism, while children of color generally are educated, as it is a necessity for survival. However, much of the work of teaching anti-racism applies to children of all races. Participants of all races will find this workshop informative and compelling.
Learn more about The Center for the Study of White American Culture (CSWAC), which was founded in April 1995 by Jeff Hitchcock and Charley Flint, an interracial couple with a lifelong interest in matters of racial justice and equity. The founders had a clear understanding that a complete view of a culture requires the perspective of both insiders and outsiders to that culture. Thus, from the outset CSWAC has been a multiracial organization. Jeff and Charley are active in New York Yearly Meeting.
