Designed as a simple opportunity for people to come together, this is a free, “come as you are,” community event. This gathering is created by families for families who wish to join in a friendly monthly gathering. All families are welcome, no exceptions.
Our goal is for local families to be connected, to gain awareness of the vast commonalities that we all share, and to feel less isolated in the beautiful madness that is parenthood. Friendly Families will evolve and change and be shaped by the families that attend; there are neither fixed activities nor structure beyond the gathering time, location, and dates. As Friendly Families continues, we may invite speakers, have workshops, practice music/songs, create book clubs or affinity groups, or find other ways to build community. This is a reoccuring event on the third Friday of each month.
Friendly Families is not affiliated with any agency or organization, though it is being planted and nurtured at the Chester River Friends Quaker Meetinghouse (one block behind Dollar General and the Fire Station). The space is ideal – a lower level game and play room for kids, a lofted lounge spot for teens upstairs, and an accessible first floor space for food and conversation. Outdoor space is also available in good weather. Child supervision will be a shared opportunity, and a craft/art project will be provided.
As this event takes place during dinner hours, please bring a meal item to share, potluck style. An oven, microwave, and refrigerator are available for use.
Please invite friends, family, neighbors, cousins, classmates, and anyone else who might enjoy an evening spent in connection, conversation, and community.
