Training for Mandated Reporters of Child Abuse and Presentation/Discussion on Youth Safety in Our Meeting Communities
“To create and sustain safe, loving Meeting communities, we must nurture the spiritual lives and community of our young Friends. This nurturing requires the work, energy and deep dedication of many adults, both paid and volunteer. It also requires a safe environment.” – PYM Child Abuse Prevention Handbook, 2015
Questions about child safety policies and practices are frequently raised by Friends, and this program is offered to support volunteers and paid staff with care of children and youth in our meetings. (Note: In Pennsylvania, volunteers and paid staff who work directly with children are considered mandated reporters under state law.)
On Saturday, October 24, we’ll gather in the Cherry Street Room at Friends Center in Philadelphia for mandated reporter training with the PA Family Support Alliance. The 3-hour training includes information on recognizing and reporting child abuse. Following the training and a break, Friends are invited to stay for lunch together (brown bag) and a presentation/discussion facilitated by PYM Staff. We’ll share PYM resources on policies and practices, and invite discussion and questions from participants on safety practices in Meetings.
