SUMMARY:Love as Action: Philadelphia
DESCRIPTION:Love as Action: \nStop War on Venezuela/Resist Authoritarianism \nBearing Witness\, Building Hope \nQuaker public witness has stood in opposition to cruel and authoritarian actions in our country before. It is time for us to show this love in action again. \nPlease join the American Friends Service Committee and Philadelphia area Friends to bear witness and show resistance to our country’s militaristic\, authoritarian actions. \nOn Saturday\, January 17 at 2:00 p.m.\, Friends\, members of other faith communities and people of conscience will gather for one hour of silent public witness at the south facing entrance of Philadelphia City Hall (at Broad Street). \nOur hope is that our presence will give hope to all who see us – to show that we can choose resistance – and remind everyone of our moral obligations to one another. \nOur intent is to gather monthly in communities across the country\, showing our communities love in action as a public witness of our Quaker values in a time of rising fascism. \nJoin us! \nTo find our more about Love as Action nationally and get more resources visit us at afsc.org/love-action

DESCRIPTION:A Pendle Hill New Year’s Retreat with Karl Middleman to probe the complex crosscurrents of life and art\, exploring the role of music as a safe harbor for reflection. \nDuring this time of political and economic upheaval we seek safe places in our daily lives\, places where we can find respite and sanctuary amidst the pain in our world. This workshop speaks to that need. Individual freedoms and the idea of sanctuary figure prominently in music and the arts — freedom from prejudice\, freedom from physical harm\, freedom to be a contrarian\, freedom to think nothing at all.    \nIn Music of Freedom and Sanctuary\, we will probe the complex crosscurrents of life and art\, exploring the role of music as a safe harbor for reflection. Topics will include:    \n\nThe lives and challenges facing “exiles in paradise\,” émigré artists and musicians to the U.S. following WWII;\nThe imagined sanctuary of Cold War politics\, and the way American isolationism played out on Broadway stages;\nToday’s songs of freedom from many lands;\nReligious sanctuary as represented in the music of Bach and Puccini;\nLonged-for deliverance in African-American spirituals;\nThe sanctuary Beethoven found in nature;\nToday’s diverse artists making a difference; and\nOur own artistic and musical resources.\n\n This workshop at peaceable Pendle Hill offers respite and inspiration\, a delightful way to round out the year. \n\nThis retreat culminates in an alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration\, with hors d’oeuvres and a home-cooked dinner\, lively concert in the Barn\, desserts\, and midnight candlelit Meeting for Worship. This event is already included with your registration to this retreat!

SUMMARY:Conversation Circles for Small Friends Meetings and Churches
DESCRIPTION:Small Meetings and Churches \nThis gathering is for Friends in meetings or churches that have no more than ten people in worship each week. Please do not register if this does not describe you. The conversations have no particular agenda beyond discussing and sharing the experience of practicing Quakerism in the setting of a small group of worshipers. It’s all right to register even if you are not able to participate in all of the gatherings. \nFollow this link to register: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeSxHsYvhjigtw_uMATj1vbsgFkZXrQ-XLojDJeILlXA3WMVg/viewform \n\nBetween December 2025 and March 2026\, Emily Provance of New York Yearly Meeting will be hosting conversation circles that are open to Friends anywhere. \nSometimes these circles will include a brief presentation portion or guest speaker\, but the primary emphasis of the circles will be large- and small-group discussions in which Friends can share ideas\, information\, resources\, and worship/prayer with each other. \nThere are many resources already available online in connection with the life cycle of meetings. You can find written resources here and videos from a previous series of consultations here. My book on the life cycles of meetings is available here. \n\nMeeting times (all Tuesdays): \nDec 2\, 2pm Eastern \nDec 16\, 8pm Eastern \nJan 6\, 2pm Eastern \nJan 20\, 8pm Eastern \nFeb 3\, 2pm Eastern \nFeb 17\, 8pm Eastern \nMar 3\, 2pm Eastern \nMar 17\, 8pm Eastern

SUMMARY:Love As Action: Philadelphia - AFSC
DESCRIPTION:Quaker witness for public action has stood in silent opposition to cruel and authoritarian actions in our country before. It is time for us to show this love in action again. \nPlease join the American Friends Service Committee\, Friends Meetings and Quaker organizations in the Greater Philadelphia Area\, to bear witness to the destruction and dehumanization that federal immigration actions are inflicting in our communities. \nOn Saturday Dec. 6 at Noon\, we will gather at Love Park (16th Street and JFK Blvd in Center City\, Philadelphia) for one hour of silent public worship and community fellowship\, while holding signs and banners (homemade and printed) that express our unwavering support for immigrants in our communities. \nOur hope is that our presence will give heart to all who see us – including through media and online communications – and remind everyone of our moral obligations to one another. \nThis is the first of what we hope will become a series of actions in future months all across our country\, showing love in action as a public witness of our Quaker values in a time of rising fascism. \nRegister here: https://www.mobilize.us/mobilize/event/873069/
