SUMMARY:Restoring Ourselves and the World: A Sustainability Sojourn in the Mexican Cloud Forest
DESCRIPTION:A Magical Journey into healing and spiritual ecology in one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems \nWhy? \nPersonal healing and planetary healing cannot be separated. Participants will immerse themselves in nature to awaken an awareness of the interdependence of our earthly home\, using that awareness to discover the ecosystem within our own hearts\, longing for restoration.  An extraordinary week for anyone seeking to discover the miraculous all around us and to rejuvenate mind\, body and spirit. \nThe week will focus on simplicity\, living on a solar budget\, ecological restoration\, feeding our souls\, and seeing the divine in the natural world. We will observe and participate in local projects in reforestation\, sustainable agriculture\, and alternative technologies. We will enjoy hikes in the cloud forest\, planting trees\, bonfires\, and worship by the river. Participants will explore how environmental stewardship and social and economic justice work hand in hand through the Work that Reconnects (Joanna Macy). We are privileged to have the Mexican leadership trained by Joanna Macy joining us for half of the sojourn. \nThe daily schedule will include opportunities for Qi Gong\, yoga\, meditation and personal reflection. Workshop sessions will tap into the Eight Pillars of Joy (the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu) and Quaker teachings. \nWho? \nThe sojourn is being sponsored by the Eco-Justice Collaborative of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and led by Quakers Alan Wright and Paula Kline\, (former Westtown School faculty). For more than 15 years\, they led the Quaker Environmental Youth Leadership Workcamp in Mexico. In 2017\, Alan and Paula co-founded the Center for Spiritual Ecology in Huatusco\, Mexico.   They have worked together in Meso-America since 1984 promoting social justice\, sustainable living and eco-system restoration. They have successfully regenerated more than 200 acres of the native cloud forest ecosystem. In addition\, participants will meet with local Mexicans and their families seeking to be examples of sustainable living. \nWhere? \nThe week will be spent at the Center for Spiritual Ecology outside Huatusco\, Veracruz\, Mexico. The Center\, known as Ashram del Bosque\, offers a unique space for learning\, growth and healing. With the cloud forest as our teacher\, we seek to establish a harmonious relationship with the natural world in a practical and lighthearted way\, while taking concrete actions to reverse climate change. The vision that drives us is nourished by Quaker values and the legacy of those who have sought a more humane\, wise and peaceful society. \nOur time will unfold in both the forest and the stunning octagonal worship and learning space nestled into the side of the forest. Lovingly built with all natural materials\, it uses eco-technologies that protect our air and water. \nAs we share intimate meals of organic\, local vegetarian Mexican cuisine\, we will build community and hope for the future. Return home renewed and refreshed. \nHow to register \nPlease complete this form to register for the Sojourn. For more information you can write to Paula Kline at kline.paula@gmail.com \nHow much? \nCost: $1100.00 (excludes airfare to Veracruz airport\, travel to the site from the airport and meals on travel days) Includes meals and snacks on site\, hospitality\, programs by a number of workshop leaders and registration for The Work that Reconnects. Full payment is due April 30th. \nREGISTER HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfrmNc683mgmOnA34BPGLCSgXqdE0il1ongWUO_VkEGfV_tkw/viewform

SUMMARY:Geography of Change
DESCRIPTION:A Forest Retreat for Navigating Life Transitions\nwith Valerie Brown\nOn Campus | In Person May 29-31\, 2026 \nBen Lomond Quaker Retreat Center\, Santa Cruz Mountains\, Northern California \nLife transitions often arrive without clear direction. Changes in work\, identity\, relationships\, health\, or an inner sense of calling can leave us uncertain about how to move forward. Guided by the belief that each person carries an inner teacher and an inner source of truth\, participants are invited to connect who they are with how they live and act. As we savor the spring beauty of the redwoods\, we will engage poetry\, prose\, music\, journaling\, gentle guided movement\, stories from diverse wisdom traditions\, and mindfulness meditation practices\, touching the seeds of transformation already present. \nWhat You Will Explore: \n\nGet grounded and renewed through the natural world.\nNavigate life’s uncertain and ambiguous moments.\nCultivate courage and trust even when you don’t feel it.\nReflect on what matters most with soul-amplifying questions\, creative practices\, small and large group dialogue and more.\nAlign your values with your work for a greater sense of purpose and meaning.\nCultivate body intelligence and body awareness.\nShow yourself real kindness through self-compassion.\nPractice self-stewardship while compassionately respecting your limits.\n\nWhat people are saying about retreats with Valerie: \n\nThis retreat provided so many excellent opportunities for inward journeys\, and identified ways that my energy\, spiritual journey was blocked.’  \n‘This retreat helped me to see more clearly the hindrances to my deepening/developing relationship to my joy and fullness.’

SUMMARY:Continuing Revolution 2026 (Young Adults!)
DESCRIPTION:Description\nA hybrid weekend workshop for young adults to connect\, learn skills for community resistance\, and deepen their personal spiritual practices.   \nGrounding in our personal spiritual journeys and community-level resistance and resilience work\, this program will bring together young adults ages 18-35 eager to deepen their personal spiritual landscape in community\, connect with others\, and learn skills to meet this moment.   \n2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the United States. Philadelphia is a focal point of the celebrations. What can we learn from the last 250 years? What do we want our world to look like 250 years from now? What is our role in caring for one another? How can we build the skills and spiritual grounding necessary for building community and resisting oppressive systems? How can we deepen our personal spiritual practices?   \nLike past Continuing Revolution programs\, this offering is simultaneously grounded in Quaker values and practices and open to those with no prior knowledge or experience with Quakerism. We welcome all seekers who are interested in exploring the intersection of their personal spiritual journey and community needs\, regardless of faith or ideology.   \nStay tuned for more details about workshops. We hope to explore themes of creating community safety beyond policing\, mutual aid\, spiritual embodiment\, and the past and future of resistance in Philadelphia.  \n \nGet notified when registration opens\nSharing this event? Download the flyer. \n\nCollaborating Organizations\nPhiladelphia Yearly Meeting is the association of Friends meetings and communities across the Eastern Shore of Maryland\, Delaware\, southern New Jersey\, and eastern and central Pennsylvania. PYM connects and supports Friends in our region. \nAmerican Friends Service Committee works with communities worldwide to challenge injustice and build conditions for lasting peace. We are steadfast in our commitment to nonviolence and our belief in the transformative power of love to overcome conflict and oppression. \nFriends Committee on National Legislation is a national\, nonpartisan Quaker organization that lobbies Congress and the administration to advance peace\, justice\, and environmental stewardship. \nPendle Hill is a Quaker study\, retreat\, and conference center located on 24 acres in Wallingford\, PA\, seeking to create peace with justice in the world by transforming lives through experiential learning\, silent worship\, and a commitment to the historic testimonies of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)\, including peace\, equity\, and community.
