SUMMARY:A Quiet Roar: The Unparalleled Lives of Bayard Rustin & Sarah Mapps Douglass
DESCRIPTION:It’s the summer of 1948\, and dynamic civil rights activist Bayard Rustin has a very important speech to prepare for at Arch Street Meeting House. But outspoken 18th-century educator\, activist\, and artist Sarah Mapps Douglass doesn’t know who this young interloper is. \nA Quiet Roar is a theater performance that bridges the lives of Rustin and Mapps Douglass\, two phenomenal Black Philadelphian Quakers who walked the halls of Arch Street Meeting House a century apart. Their writings and experiences come to life by highlighting the complex\, often overlooked intersections of race\, faith\, and freedom in the United States. Written & Directed by Yvie Jones. \nRun Time: 30 minutes \nThe Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) at ASMH practices unprogrammed\, silent worship. Following the performance\, the audience will be invited to engage in a 30-second moment of silent reflection and a Q&A. \nCast: Leslie Hartshell (Sarah Mapps Douglass) & Najee Duwon (Bayard Rustin) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe program will run on Saturday mornings from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM and afternoons from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM\, on Memorial Day\, May 25\, 2026\, through Labor Day\, September 7\, 2026.

SUMMARY:Dreaming Sanctuary: An Intergenerational LBGTQ+ Gathering
DESCRIPTION:An intergenerational LGBTQ+ gathering for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building.  \nThis retreat will offer a refuge space for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building at Pendle Hill\, a Quaker center open to all for retreat\, learning\, and community. This gathering will bring together LGBTQ+ participants from a range of ages and spiritual backgrounds\, providing an opportunity to break bread together\, recenter in openness to the Spirit\, and create new connections as we celebrate what nourishes and sustains us across the generations.  \nWe will explore inherited spiritual practices that sustained our queer ancestors\, including the fundamental practice of building shared spiritual community.  \nSee the draft schedule here.  \nHaverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Curator of Quaker Collections\, Mary Crauderueff\, has started an oral history project interviewing queer Quakers. Queer history and stories are dramatically underrepresented in most archives\, and in particular in our archives. This project will bring concrete material into the collections\, including putting materials in our online\, public repository (see our long-form interviews here: Queer Quakers Oral History Project). We acknowledge the diverse spectrum of experiences within the queer Quaker community and will actively work towards representative coverage.    \nWe are honored to be invited to share time with you at Dreaming Sanctuary to conduct 15-20 minute interviews that will be part of this larger project. Participants need to be 18+\, and who either currently or previously have identified as Quaker and LGBTQIA+.

SUMMARY:Love: Tending the Soil of our Sanctuaries for Cis/Het Identities
DESCRIPTION:This online workshop series invites people of faith who are working for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and liberation to gather in community.  \nTogether\, we will sink our hands into the soil in which we build\nBeloved Community: love. What does love mean to us\, and how is it moving in our lives? What practices of love are sustaining and\nsoftening us in the hardness of the present moment? How can we be love’s accomplices in transforming our faith communities to embrace queer experiences and people? \nThrough breathing\, stretching\, movement\, discussion\, and journaling\, we will explore how love can help us re-member\, interrupt fragmentation\, and reclaim wholeness in ourselves and our communities. \nThe initial workshop will be offered two times: \n1. Thursday\, June 25th\, 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM Eastern\nFor those whose identify as lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer\, questioning\, non-binary\, Two Spirit\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, or otherwise outside of cisgender heterosexuality. \n2. Thursday\, July9\, 7:30 to 9:30 pm Eastern Time\nFor cisgender and heterosexual allies of the LGBTQIA+ community.    \nThose who attend either the first or second workshop will be invited to join the third workshop to go deeper in a mixed identity setting. SUMMARY:Playing in the Light: Godly Play/Faith & Play Training for Friends
DESCRIPTION:This weekend workshop shares an approach to religious education grounded in deep respect for children\, using wonder\, play\, and stories from the Bible and Quaker faith\, practice\, and witness. More than a workshop on storytelling\, “Playing in the Light” is also an opportunity to gather in community and consider how we approach spiritual formation and support for children and families in our meetings. The experiential approach has tools that can be used with other resources\, and meetings are finding ways that the stories can anchor intergenerational worship. Those who have previously attended a training will find they go deeper in their practice. And for some Friends\, the weekend is a personal spiritual retreat more than preparation for service to a religious education program. Come spend a weekend full of stories\, centering children and welcoming all of us into a bigger story of faith in community! \n \nPresentations/discussions include: \n\nnurturing the spiritual lives of children\nexploring the “unspoken” lessons of spaces and pedagogy\nsupporting children and families in the meeting community\nworking with multiage groups and diverse needs\nadapting Godly Play for Friends and weaving stories into a children’s program

SUMMARY:1990s Young Friends Reunion Weekend at Camp Onas!
DESCRIPTION:1990s-era/Gen X Young Friends of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting are gathering at Onas and we invite you to join us.\nFor many of us\, the past year has highlighted the need to come together and share resources and fellowship. The sacred community we created in the 90s was a powerful force in our lives. Now is the time to tap back into that power and rebuild that community.\nIf you were a 90s PYM Young Friend or adjacent to that community\, we especially hope you’ll join us. But all Friends and Friendly folk are welcome. \nWe will connect\, learn from each other\, and reignite the light of our community. Throughout the weekend\, just like in the old days\, we will take part in shared meals\, worship sharing\, and workshops focused on mobilizing our shared power. \n \n Get Your Tickets!\n \n \n \n \n \n If you would like to request financial or logistical support to attend this event please reach out to the planning committee: \nKri Burkander\, Paul Burkander\, Jasmine Surti\, Wilder Scott\, Mary Jesse\, Adrienne Pancoe Cormier\, & Josh Grove \nby contacting programs@pym.org.
