Silent Witness Events are occurring Nationwide. Silent Witnesses are spiritual and educative and peaceful to the core. They are not protests or “demonstrations” rather they are spiritual witness – using our own lives and bodies to say “we see” we witness the signs of fascism occurring around us now. SUMMARY:Harambee (Let’s Come Together)
DESCRIPTION:This historic gathering invites Black Quakers\, our families\, and our friends to celebrate our collective resilience. \nTogether\, we will reflect on the past\, present\, and future of Black Quaker life through worship\, fellowship\, remembrance\, and community. \nThe gathering will also celebrate the reopening of a recently renovated\, 250-year-old Quaker meetinghouse in Philadelphia. The meetinghouse is now home to Unity Friends Meeting\, a newly reorganized Pan-African Quaker meeting\, and the Ujima Friends Peace Center\, which has served as a Quaker witness in North Philadelphia for the past ten years. \nAs we gather on August 28th through the 30th\, 2026\, we will explore the history of this site which was once a location of the Underground Railroad and a burial ground for formerly enslaved people. We plan to worship\, fellowship and share with each other the stories of our journeys as Friends of African descent\, journeys that brought us ‘thus far by faith” to this historic moment. The sacred community we created in the 90s was a powerful force in our lives.
