SUMMARY:Extended Meeting for Worship
DESCRIPTION:Extended worship is a period of sitting with and in the divine spirit. In the manner of Early Friends\, we gather for a prolonged period of silent reflection and inward searching\, usually remaining in waiting worship for ~3 hours\, with time at the conclusion for afterthoughts and sharing. \nWhat can you expect? \nWe will gather in silence\, with hearts and minds open and bent towards listening to that of God among and within us. Spoken ministry may arise from the silence\, though it is not uncommon for worship to remain silent for the duration of our time together. Messages should be a deepening of the silence we share. The purpose of silent worship is not to speak\, but to listen more clearly. To this end\, we hold the silence as ministry itself\, which has the capacity for transformation and transcendence. \nWho is extended worship for? \nAll those who wish to deepen their spiritual practice and relationship with Spirit. All those who wish for more inward reflection and connection to the divine within. Those seeking to expand their individual and communal spiritual lives.

SUMMARY:Book Discussion – A Tender Time: Quaker Voices on the End of Life
DESCRIPTION:Are you thinking about your own aging or accompanying a family member\, friend or meeting member as they journey through aging to dying?  Are you wondering what Friends have to say about these stages? \nWe will explore one chapter at each session. You can attend all 6 or just the ones that speak to you.  Sessions will be on Zoom to be more accessible.  The first chapter is Completing Your Life: Spirit-led Aging. \n“From the Baltimore Yearly Meeting’s End of Life Working Group\, A Tender Time is a unique collection of Quaker voices\, historical and contemporary\, that explores practical\, emotional\, and spiritual aspects of aging and dying well. It moves in widening circles\, from aging to dying\, and from primary caregiver to friends to the whole faith community. It illustrates how individual Friends make end of life decisions guided by the Spirit and Quaker values.” (Pendle Hill Bookstore description) \nLearn more at: https://www.quakersbucks.org/events/book-discussion-a-tender-time-quaker-voices-on-the-end-of-life

SUMMARY:Restoring Ourselves and the World: A Sustainability Sojourn in the Mexican Cloud Forest
DESCRIPTION:A Magical Journey into healing and spiritual ecology in one of the world’s most diverse ecosystems \nWhy? \nPersonal healing and planetary healing cannot be separated. Participants will immerse themselves in nature to awaken an awareness of the interdependence of our earthly home\, using that awareness to discover the ecosystem within our own hearts\, longing for restoration.  An extraordinary week for anyone seeking to discover the miraculous all around us and to rejuvenate mind\, body and spirit. \nThe week will focus on simplicity\, living on a solar budget\, ecological restoration\, feeding our souls\, and seeing the divine in the natural world. We will observe and participate in local projects in reforestation\, sustainable agriculture\, and alternative technologies. We will enjoy hikes in the cloud forest\, planting trees\, bonfires\, and worship by the river. Participants will explore how environmental stewardship and social and economic justice work hand in hand through the Work that Reconnects (Joanna Macy). We are privileged to have the Mexican leadership trained by Joanna Macy joining us for half of the sojourn. \nThe daily schedule will include opportunities for Qi Gong\, yoga\, meditation and personal reflection. Workshop sessions will tap into the Eight Pillars of Joy (the Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu) and Quaker teachings. \nWho? \nThe sojourn is being sponsored by the Eco-Justice Collaborative of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and led by Quakers Alan Wright and Paula Kline\, (former Westtown School faculty). For more than 15 years\, they led the Quaker Environmental Youth Leadership Workcamp in Mexico. In 2017\, Alan and Paula co-founded the Center for Spiritual Ecology in Huatusco\, Mexico.   They have worked together in Meso-America since 1984 promoting social justice\, sustainable living and eco-system restoration. They have successfully regenerated more than 200 acres of the native cloud forest ecosystem. In addition\, participants will meet with local Mexicans and their families seeking to be examples of sustainable living. \nWhere? \nThe week will be spent at the Center for Spiritual Ecology outside Huatusco\, Veracruz\, Mexico. The Center\, known as Ashram del Bosque\, offers a unique space for learning\, growth and healing. With the cloud forest as our teacher\, we seek to establish a harmonious relationship with the natural world in a practical and lighthearted way\, while taking concrete actions to reverse climate change. The vision that drives us is nourished by Quaker values and the legacy of those who have sought a more humane\, wise and peaceful society. \nOur time will unfold in both the forest and the stunning octagonal worship and learning space nestled into the side of the forest. Lovingly built with all natural materials\, it uses eco-technologies that protect our air and water. \nAs we share intimate meals of organic\, local vegetarian Mexican cuisine\, we will build community and hope for the future. Return home renewed and refreshed. \nHow to register \nPlease complete this form to register for the Sojourn. For more information you can write to Paula Kline at kline.paula@gmail.com \nHow much? \nCost: $1100.00 (excludes airfare to Veracruz airport\, travel to the site from the airport and meals on travel days) Includes meals and snacks on site\, hospitality\, programs by a number of workshop leaders and registration for The Work that Reconnects. Full payment is due April 30th. \nREGISTER HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfrmNc683mgmOnA34BPGLCSgXqdE0il1ongWUO_VkEGfV_tkw/viewform

SUMMARY:New Draft Law Passed: People of Conscience Get Ready
DESCRIPTION:Quaker author Curt Torell will explain recent legal changes in draft registration and outline steps for conscientious objectors to war to respond. Then the group will self-organize next steps for mutual support and counsel. Everyone is welcome. \nJoin in-person or on Zoom at the following Meetinghouses: \n\nMontclair Meeting (289 Park St\, Upper Montclair\, NJ 07043): April 26\, 1:00 – 3:00 pm\nOld Chatham Meeting (539 Co Rd 13\, Old Chatham\, NY 12136): May 3\, 1:00 – 3:00 pm\nBrooklyn Meeting (110 Schermerhorn Street Brooklyn\, NY 11201): May 11\, 6:00 – 8:00 pm\n\nIn the session\, we’ll consider together questions such as: What is conscience? Is your conscience troubled? How do you act on conscience? Who is a conscientious objector? \nFor context\, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) passed at the end of last year will make federal Selective Service draft registration automatic for all men aged 18-25 starting in December 2026. The US Government wouldn’t bother doing this if they didn’t plan to use it. Unfortunately\, a person cannot file a conscientious objection claim until getting an induction notice once a draft is instated\, sometimes giving less than 10 days to respond. Are you\, your family\, and your faith community prepared? \nRegister at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScKVvzB5SN6xYufRrPGDA21ffRnGfIi1ApOQT7GSpF9bV5uUA/viewform.

\nExtended worship is open to all those who wish to deepen their spiritual practice and relationship with Spirit. All those who wish for more inward reflection and connection to the divine within. Those seeking to expand their individual and communal spiritual lives.

SUMMARY:Extended Meeting for Worship
DESCRIPTION:Swarthmore Friends Meeting invites you to  a day of extended meeting for worship and spiritual fellowship with other Friends. All are welcome. Please bring a bag lunch.  Beverages will be provided..\n\n\n\nExtended worship is an opportunity to be seeped in the Divine in the company of other Friends. For over twenty-five years\, Friends in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting have met periodically on Saturdays for a full morning of unprogrammed worship (usually about three hours)\, followed by fellowship over a bag lunch.   In the afternoon we share how we were touched by the Spirit in the morning worship\, and we center again in gathered silence together. \nFor many this is a regular practice that helps us hear how God is leading us\, a mini-retreat in the midst of busy lives.  During the meeting for worship\, Friends are invited to make their bodies comfortable and\, as needed\, to quietly leave and then to return to the room. Although moments of restlessness may occur\, especially at the one hour mark\, most newcomers to Extended Worship are surprised at how quickly time passes\, and by about how refreshed they feel.  All are welcome. \nSince 2020\, gatherings for extended worship have been held online monthly via Zoom\, usually on the first Saturday of the month.  In-person gatherings in the Philadelphia area are now infrequent\, and a special opportunity to be gathered by the Spirit together.  In-person gatherings are now being held about five times a year at Quaker Meetings in New England.\nRemember to bring your lunch.  Attend just a portion of the day or the full day. There is no cost to attend. No advance registration is required\, except if you require child care.  If you would like child care\, please contact us at least two weeks in advance.\nSchedule (times are Eastern Time\, USA): \n9:15 to 9:30 Gathering and Welcome \n9:30 to 12:30 Extended Meeting for Worship \n12:30 to 1:30 Brown Bag Lunch (bring your own) \n1:30 to 3:00 Worship Sharing \n3:00 to 3:15 Clean-up and departure.

\nExtended Worship is open to all those who wish to deepen their spiritual practice and relationship with Spirit. All those who wish for more inward reflection and connection to the divine within. Those seeking to expand their individual and communal spiritual lives. \nQuestions?
