SUMMARY:Dreaming Sanctuary: An Intergenerational LBGTQ+ Gathering
DESCRIPTION:An intergenerational LGBTQ+ gathering for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building.  \nThis retreat will offer a refuge space for renewal\, rejuvenation\, and relationship building at Pendle Hill\, a Quaker center open to all for retreat\, learning\, and community. This gathering will bring together LGBTQ+ participants from a range of ages and spiritual backgrounds\, providing an opportunity to break bread together\, recenter in openness to the Spirit\, and create new connections as we celebrate what nourishes and sustains us across the generations.  \nWe will explore inherited spiritual practices that sustained our queer ancestors\, including the fundamental practice of building shared spiritual community.  \nSee the draft schedule here.  \nHaverford College Quaker & Special Collections and Curator of Quaker Collections\, Mary Crauderueff\, has started an oral history project interviewing queer Quakers. Queer history and stories are dramatically underrepresented in most archives\, and in particular in our archives. This project will bring concrete material into the collections\, including putting materials in our online\, public repository (see our long-form interviews here: Queer Quakers Oral History Project). We acknowledge the diverse spectrum of experiences within the queer Quaker community and will actively work towards representative coverage.    \nWe are honored to be invited to share time with you at Dreaming Sanctuary to conduct 15-20 minute interviews that will be part of this larger project. Participants need to be 18+\, and who either currently or previously have identified as Quaker and LGBTQIA+.

Discerning\, Deciding\, Documenting\, and Defending a CO Claim with Selective Service\n \nA workshop in three sessions: August 10 | August 13 | August 17\n*please plan to attend all three sessions from 7:00 to 8:00 PM ET \nJoin online with Zoom from anywhere or attend in person at Durham Friends Meeting in Durham\, NC \nEffective December 18\, 2026\, eligible males (assigned at birth) aged 18 to 25 will be automatically registered for the military draft pool using existing federal and state records\, removing the need to register manually. How do we respond as Friends\, and prepare the young people in our lives and communities? \nJoin Friends for this a comprehensive\, interactive workshop for all teens and young adults\, of any gender\, as well as all interested adults or mentors\, of any age. Diversity of participants enriches discussion\, and personal participation in war includes everyone\, not just 18-year-old males. \nThe workshop covers Selective Service legislation\, definitions of conscientious objection\, activities to discern one’s beliefs and articulate them\, and finally some strategies to defend them. By the end\, participants will have a better understanding of conscientious objection\, a deeper grounding about the source of their convictions\, and a “CO letter” articulating their beliefs. \nThe workshop provides extensive materials\, including a workbook to document personal reflection\, activities\, and discussion. \nThe workshop is a collaboration between Quaker Religious Education Collaborative (QREC)\, Durham Friends Meeting (DFM)\, and Quaker House (QH). The facilitator\, Curt Torell\, Ph.D.\, serves on the Steering Circle of QREC and is a long-time board member of Quaker House\, a Friends witness for peace that serves members of the military who are questioning their role. By reframing the Lamb’s War as an Endless Revolution\, we will consider the ways in which our liturgies\, that is the work we do together as Friends\, shapes our communities. We face ongoing attempts of empire to undermine and reframe what it means to be human. What practices might sustain our spirits and guide our work? In this talk\, we will look both liturgies of empire and liturgies of resistance as we consider how to sustain our communities of love and justice in the ongoing work to bring about the beloved community.   \nThis lecture will celebrate the August publication of Pendle Hill Pamphlet #500\, C. DESCRIPTION:This online workshop series invites people of faith who are working for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and liberation to gather in community.  \nTogether\, we will sink our hands into the soil in which we build\nBeloved Community: love. What does love mean to us\, and how is it moving in our lives? What practices of love are sustaining and\nsoftening us in the hardness of the present moment? How can we be love’s accomplices in transforming our faith communities to embrace queer experiences and people? \nThrough breathing\, stretching\, movement\, discussion\, and journaling\, we will explore how love can help us re-member\, interrupt fragmentation\, and reclaim wholeness in ourselves and our communities. \nThe initial workshop will be offered two times: \n1. Thursday\, June 25th\, 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM Eastern\nFor those whose identify as lesbian\, gay\, bisexual\, transgender\, queer\, questioning\, non-binary\, Two Spirit\, intersex\, asexual\, aromantic\, or otherwise outside of cisgender heterosexuality. \n2. Thursday\, July9\, 7:30 to 9:30 pm Eastern Time\nFor cisgender and heterosexual allies of the LGBTQIA+ community.    \nThose who attend either the first or second workshop will be invited to join the third workshop to go deeper in a mixed identity setting. Discerning\, Deciding\, Documenting\, and Defending a CO Claim with Selective Service\n \nA workshop in three sessions: August 10 | August 13 | August 17\n*please plan to attend all three sessions from 7:00 to 8:00 PM ET \nJoin online with Zoom from anywhere or attend in person at Durham Friends Meeting in Durham\, NC \nEffective December 18\, 2026\, eligible males (assigned at birth) aged 18 to 25 will be automatically registered for the military draft pool using existing federal and state records\, removing the need to register manually. How do we respond as Friends\, and prepare the young people in our lives and communities? \nJoin Friends for this a comprehensive\, interactive workshop for all teens and young adults\, of any gender\, as well as all interested adults or mentors\, of any age. Diversity of participants enriches discussion\, and personal participation in war includes everyone\, not just 18-year-old males. \nThe workshop covers Selective Service legislation\, definitions of conscientious objection\, activities to discern one’s beliefs and articulate them\, and finally some strategies to defend them. By the end\, participants will have a better understanding of conscientious objection\, a deeper grounding about the source of their convictions\, and a “CO letter” articulating their beliefs. \nThe workshop provides extensive materials\, including a workbook to document personal reflection\, activities\, and discussion. \nThe workshop is a collaboration between Quaker Religious Education Collaborative (QREC)\, Durham Friends Meeting (DFM)\, and Quaker House (QH). The facilitator\, Curt Torell\, Ph.D.\, serves on the Steering Circle of QREC and is a long-time board member of Quaker House\, a Friends witness for peace that serves members of the military who are questioning their role. Conscientious objection has been a cornerstone of the QH work. Curt is a member of Chapel Hill Meeting in North Carolina.

More than a workshop on storytelling\, “Playing in the Light” is also an opportunity to gather in community and consider how we approach spiritual formation and support for children and families in our meetings. The experiential approach has tools that can be used with other resources\, and meetings are finding ways that the stories can anchor intergenerational worship. Those who have previously attended a training will find they go deeper in their practice. And for some Friends\, the weekend is a personal spiritual retreat more than preparation for service to a religious education program. SUMMARY:Coiling Clay: A Meditative Ceramics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:A meditative coil-building ceramics workshop. \nThis hands-on studio experience will be a guided workshop focused on coil-building with clay. Students will learn the basics of coil-building and pinching with clay and can choose to make one or two pieces\, either functional or sculptural. The workshop will focus on the meditative practice of feeling the clay move between pinches. Following the building\, students will get to decorate their creations with underglaze. The workshops will be a creative exploration and students should feel free to bring a few sketches or ideas with them. \nAll clay and tools will be available at the Pendle Hill studio for students\, but bringing an apron is encouraged. Participants will be able to pick up finished pieces within a month of the workshop\, once pieces have been bisque and glaze fired.

DESCRIPTION:A seven-week online course on learning and teaching the fundamental elements of Quaker faith and practice  \nThis compelling seven-week course explores the spiritual roots of Quaker faith and practice. The syllabus has a broad audience\, but this unique cohort invites experienced Friends to both participate in the course and learn how to facilitate it in their own style in their own Meetings.  \nThe course is text-based. Each week there is up to about an hour and a half of reading to do before the class. In class\, we will discuss how the ideas in the materials might relate to our own spiritual experiences. Most materials are available to you online. The others are five Pendle Hill Pamphlets that we strongly encourage participants to obtain\, either by borrowing your Meeting library or by purchasing from Pendle Hill. \nThe number of participants is limited to 10\, so that people can get to know and trust each other and share about their own experiences and understandings. Due to the limited size\, we encourage Friends to coordinate with your Meeting and select a single Friend from your Meeting to participate and bring this resource back to your community.

SUMMARY:Peace Fair of Bucks Quarterly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The 26th annual Peace Fair features over 80 tables of local crafts\, artwork\, traditional and vegetarian food\, kids games\, and Bucks area non-profits whose focus is peace\, community service\, healthy living and the environment. Browse the gently-used book sale and listen to the Tookany Creek bluegrass band\, Mindy Murray and Kevin McCloskey from River Drivers\, and singer/songwriters Jonathan Sprout and Paige Melton\, among others. Hear this year’s Bucks County Poet Laureate Madeline Marriott and other area poets at the Poetry Reading (open mike at the end)\, and tour the recently restored Buckingham Quaker Meetinghouse\, a National Landmark. The fair runs from 10:30am to 4:00pm on Saturday\, September 26\, and is handicap accessible. Admission and parking are free to the public\, ($5 suggested donation). Visitors from toddlers to seniors will enjoy a delightful\, engaging and uplifting day at the Peace Fair.
