WELCOME to a brand new year of Middle School Friends, the Quaker youth group for 6th-8th grade!! Autumn is on its way, and that means an MSF gathering!! (And, incidentally, Halloween.) Come along to the first event of the year and get to know new people, see old friends, and build a strong and caring community together. This year we are looking at conscientious living as an on-going theme in all of our gatherings. Think about what you would like to see the group spend time on this year, and get in touch with Elizabeth to talk about it. All of our Quaker testimonies point us towards being more aware in our lives about how much food and goods we consume, where our money is really going when we pay for things, and how much influence the violence in television and popular culture have on our society. Our Integrity testimony, especially, obligates us to not just consume food and television blindly with no thought as to the impact on ourselves and others. Rather, as Quakers we strive to live conscientiously, and make sure that we are doing what we feel is right not just for ourselves, but for everyone else in the world, too. This year we will be learning about lots of new stuff that will start us on the path towards living more conscientiously. Meanwhile, we'll spend our other time this weekend doing all of our favorite regulars - like carving pumpkins, small group worship sharing, free time, and don't forget the four-square! Be sure to bring: : a sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket, (there are bunk beds), pillow, pajamas, change of clothes, toothbrush, soap & towel (there are showers), a Halloween costume, favorite ghost stories, and a small- to- medium sized pumpkin. Check the follow- up letter for additional items. Leave at home: cell phones, ipods, anything edible, radios, tape players, pets, pocket knives, hand-held computer games, roller blades, skate boards and pocket laser lights. Registration information: The cost of the gathering will be $65.00. Scholarship money is available, so don't stay away for lack of money! If you can pay more to help cover someone else's scholarship, please do. Preregister and prepay by October 9th. Registration is limited to 35. If you want to attend, send your registration form in today. If you come, plan on staying for the entire program. (Part-time registrants will be placed on the waiting list). Carpool information and a follow-up letter will go out on October 10th. If you need to cancel your registration, please call as soon as possible so someone else can come
