The first weekend in May, PYM Young Friends gathered at Camp Swatara, in Bethel, Pennsylvania for fellowship and fun with PYM Middle School Friends and the Friends of Caln Quarter. It was a weekend of hiking, laughing, singing, and sharing; of saying goodbye to our graduating Friends and welcoming those becoming Young Friends. Young Friends also attended to several items business of importance to the community including determining the Friends who will be taking on various leadership roles in the community this upcoming year. Young Friends gave attention two nominees who have been under consideration for the role of co-PYM Liaisons. Evan Sidener and Tenaja Henson were approved for this role, which is designed to give Young Friends greater involvement and voice in the adult PYM community. Both Evan and Tenaja will bring great leadership to this work, with Tenaja having just served as Clerk of the Nurture Committee for a year and Evan being a participatory and supportive role model of the community. The PYM Liaisons intend to begin attending Interim Meeting in the Fall.
Young Friends additionally selected their new Clerks for the year, approving Emi Inskeep and Hannah Blossom for this role. Typically Clerks give attention to preparing and facilitating Young Friends’ business and work with program staff to lead the community. Hannah and Emi each have a great deal of experience in the Young Friends community, having attended Young Friends gatherings consistently since joining the program after Middle School Friends three years ago. Both have also served the community in previously leadership roles: Emi is beginning her second term as Clerk, and Hannah has just served a year as a permanent member of the Nurture Committee (a role known as a “PermaNurt”). The Young Friends community looks forward to a great year under the leadership of these Friends!
