YAF Winter Retreat – How do we Live as Quakers?

Young Adult Friends

For the past 3 years, the Young Adult Friends Working Group has organized a YAF Winter Retreat on the weekend following New Year’s. This year, our theme is “Living Out our Faith in the World”, exploring the external expressions of our faith, including ministry, vocation, and activism. From our Quaker roots to the modern world, we are continually challenged to be in the world but not of it. But how do we actually live this out with integrity while avoiding burnout? How can we remain faithful to Spirit? We’ll work on this together.

The theme for the Winter Retreat came from work that the program subcommittee of the YAF Working Group did last spring. Our Spring Retreat was “Does Thee Quake?”, focusing on our inward expressions of our faith, and we’re complementing that weekend by now focusing on the outward expressions of our faith. We’re currently looking for workshop leaders and speakers to help us explore this theme.

The retreat is January 4-6, 2013, at Swarthmore Monthly Meeting in Swarthmore, PA. YAFs age 18-35-ish from across the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting area (and even farther!) will gather for a weekend of workshops, worship sharing, games, and fellowship as we build spiritual community with one another. Join us, and let other YAFs in your life know! Registration is online, and the deadline is January 1st. The weekend is $35, and we have ample scholarships & workgrants available.
