Committee on Support & Outreach
The
mission of the Standing Committee on Support and Outreach is to
oversee the good works that will produce a healthy, vibrant Religious
Society of Friends in the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting area, which
naturally attracts new and existing members, creating a stronger
faith community. The word "support" refers
to supporting each Meeting as a unit.

PYM NEWS: Philadelphia Yearly Meeting gathered July 30 to August 3, 2008 at DeSales University in Pennsylvania. Young Adult Friends participated in activities throughout the yearly meeting this week.

Young Adult Friends Retreat at Burlington
PYM NEWS: A weekend retreat for PYM Young Adult Friends (ages 18-35) will be held October 10-12 at the Burlington Meeting House & Conference Center, Burlington NJ.

Quaker Youth Book Project Seeks Submissions
PYM NEWS: The Quaker Youth Book Project of Quakers Uniting in Publications is now accepting submissions of writing and art by Friends ages 15-35.

PYM NEWS: Quaker Quest, the successful inreach/outreach program which began six years ago in Great Britain, has come to Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.

Quaker Quest Offered
PYM NEWS: Philadelphia Yearly Meeting is moving forward on a plan to offer the outreach program Quaker Quest to Monthly and Quarterly Meetings. Recently, the Support and Outreach Standing Committee approved the creation of a Quaker Quest Working Group.

Access to Social Worker Services Extended
PYM NEWS: For the past year, individual Meetings and members of PYM have been turning to the services of a licensed Social Worker for help in solving difficult health, social, and financial problems. The Yearly Meeting program Care and Counsel for Meetings and Members offers these services thanks to funding from Bequests Granting Group that has now been extended through November 1, 2008.

Meetings Can Get 200 Free PYM Pamphlets
PYM NEWS: In January, each Monthly Meeting clerk will receive a flyer advertising an offer from PYM Publications Service Group for up to 200 free pamphlets per Meeting, thanks to special PYM publications funds.

Friends Hospice Opens in Philadelphia
PYM NEWS: Amidst great joy, Friends Hospice of Philadelphia began hospice services on October 1. While concentrating initially on north and west Philadelphia neighborhoods, the hospice will serve the whole city and its immediate surroundings.
