The 320th Annual Sessions of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends convened at the appointed hour on Fifth-day evening, Third Month 23, 2000, at the Arch Street Meeting House and gathered into worship. Clerk was Arlene Kelly, Recording Clerk Stephan de la Veaux.
- Minute 1: Meeting on Worship and Ministry
Clerk welcomed the gathered Friends, noting that this session was planned by the Worship and Care Standing Committee. Clerk introduced Michael Wajda, Clerk of the Meeting for Worship and Ministry, which is under the care of the Worship and Care Standing Committee. The groups gathered to plan this session had a clear goal: We wish the Meeting to run fully in the presence of God. When moved to speak, God speaks through us; our ministry is from the Spirit. Michael invited and challenged us to hear God working through in our extended worship. With that, Meeting continued an extended period of worship, wherein Friends explored the ministry of God in us and through us.
- Minute 2: Clerks Welcome
At the end of open worship. Clerk again welcomed Friends and invited visiting Friends to introduce themselves and their Meetings. Clerk read a traveling minute from Iowa Yearly Meeting (Conservative) on behalf of Deborah Fisch, a visiting Friend. Friends from Philadelphia Yearly Meeting attending Yearly Meeting for the first time rose to introduce themselves. All were warmly welcomed to Yearly Meeting.
- Minute 3: Introduction of the Standing Committee
Clerk introduced the members of the Worship and Care Standing Committee at the facing bench. Yearly Meeting sessions this year are not organized around reports from the standing committees, but are planned around the testimonies and leadings of the standing committees.
- Minute 4: Session Recess
Minutes of the session were read, corrected and approved and announcements made. Friends adjourned, purposing to reconvene Sixth-day morning at 9:00 a.m., God willing.
