More than three years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, our government's actions threaten our Constitutional freedoms, the bedrock of the democracy we claim we want to export to the world. The USA PATRIOT Act, rushed through Congress shortly after the attacks, is one of many new laws, executive orders, and court decisions that are relentlessly eroding our rights.
How many of the broad new powers secrecy, detention, surveillance, violations of due process, snooping into private records that the government has taken on are truly necessary to counter terrorism? How do they affect us all? When did this assault begin? Where will it end? How can "we the people" take back our rights?
