Philadelphia Yearly Meeting offers several forms of financial assistance to support Friends and their children in pursuing their educational goals:
The Friends Schools Working Group is offering scholarships for young (ages 21-40) Quaker teachers at Friends schools to attend workshops sponsored by the Friends Council on Education, made possible by a grant from Friends Institute. Contact Tom Hoopes at 215-241-7224 or tomh@pym.org.
Friends teaching in public schools may apply for small grants to support curricular or extra-curricular programs that bring Friends social testimonies (peace, simplicity, equality, ecological witness, etc.) into public school settings. Application deadline is October 1. Contact Elke Muller at 215-241-7223 or elkem@pym.org.
Some 450 Quaker children at 32 Friends schools will be receiving over $350,000 in financial aid for this school year, thanks to the PYM Tuition Aid Program for Friends children in PYM Friends schools. Tuition aid comes from restricted gifts to PYM. Applications for next year (2004-05) are available in November from your Meeting or Friends school.
Grants come from donor-restricted gifts to PYM.
