We are pleased to announce that Helen Fields of West Chester Meeting (PA) was selected as the new Religious Education Program Coordinator of PYM. Prior to joining the staff at Friends Center effective July 1, Helen served as Youth and Outreach Coordinator for the Brandywine Region of PYM for the past six years. (The Brandywine Region decided to disband as an organizational unit.) Helen brings a wealth of relevant experience to this new position, having played a key role in starting the First-day School and Religious Education Committee at Baltimore Monthly Meeting of Friends at Stony Run in the 1980s. Subsequent to that, Helen held several staff and volunteer positions related to the teaching of Quakerism and the nurturing of the spiritual lives of children and adults.
Says Tom Hoopes, PYM Director of Education & Religious Education, I have great confidence in Helens abilities, and I look forward to working with her as part of the new RE-Ed team here at PYM. Helen expects to hit the ground running, with visits to Monthly and Quarterly Meetings throughout the fall. She also plans to schedule and publicize several First-day School teacher-training events this year, building on the We Can Do It! Day model. Helen also has exciting plans for using the revamped Education Standing Committee web page (www.pym.org/education) as a valuable tool for sharing information and resources about Quaker religious education with members and Meetings. If you have ideas or questions for her, she can be reached at 215-241-7008 or helenfields@pym.org.
