Joan Broadfield of Chester Meeting (PA) has been selected as the new Peace & Justice Coordinator for PYM effective September 1. For the past 17 years, Joan has been an administrative assistant working mainly with peace and concerns projects of PYM.
The Peace & Justice Coordinator assists Monthly Meetings, Quarterly Meetings and Yearly Meeting working groups to advance Friends' testimonies for peace and the social order. She will support efforts to implement the Peace Well Initiative, and support the work of the Conscience, Militarism and War Tax Concerns Working Group. This position is a new one, created after the Standing Committee's review of the experimental position Laurence Sigmond has been filling, and the reshuffling of some other Peace and Concerns staffing.
It is a good thing for our organization whenever we can promote or transfer one of our own to take on a new challenge. This kind of transition brings challenges too. Joan has done her current work very well, and with this transition we now have to think about finding someone else to do that work, or finding other ways to get it done. Members of the Staff Administrative Team will be consulting and looking for the best way forward — both short term and long term.
