PYM Library staff and Willistown Meeting members are planning a special retreat for Monthly Meeting librarians. The retreat will be Saturday, October 25, at the beautiful Willistown Meetinghouse near Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. After the fire in 2002 which destroyed the Willistown Meeting library, it has been rebuilt and is ready for visitors. The retreat will be on The ministry of books in the spiritual life of a monthly meeting and How to start up a library.
Rebecca Mays, long time editor of Pendle Hill Quaker publications, will lead an inspirational session in the morning. In the afternoon, Willistown Library Committee members will share their experience of rebuilding their library, and Rita Varley will share resources and guidance that PYM can provide to help Meetings develop new libraries or restore old ones. At the end of the day, Meeting librarians will be invited to select books to take home to their libraries from a grand pile of duplicate copies which are being de-accessioned from the PYM Library at Friends Center to reduce space requirements.
For more information, contact Rita Varley: 215-241-7219, ritav@pym.org. Announcements will be sent to Meeting librarians.
