There will be a Called Session of Yearly Meeting on Saturday, October 11, 2003, to receive and consider the report of the Structure Evaluation Project Group. The Project Group was appointed by Interim Meeting to carry out a charge of the 1997 PYM restructuring plan, that an evaluation be made of the new Standing Committee-based structure five years after it was put in place.
Goal statement: To look at the new structure of PYM, evaluate how well it is working; to listen to all who have comments or concerns; and to develop recommendations for refining the current structure (not a major reorganization).
Focus: To find out how the structure is or is not serving to enrich and support the spiritual journeys of monthly meetings, members and attenders.
Feedback has been gathered from people involved in all facets of PYM: Through a major survey: questionnaires sent to those active in PYM—on standing committees, working groups, monthly and quarterly meeting clerks, staff and regional staff, Interim Meeting, Financial Stewardship, Nominating Committee, Regional staff oversight, and clerks/officers of PYM; to everyone via the PYM News (a total of 625 responses); through 40 meeting visits; and through conversations with individuals.
Through quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data and comments, we will draw conclusions on the strengths and weaknesses of the current structure, and make recommendations to the Yearly Meeting.
Reporting back has been through progress reports to Interim Meeting; at PYM annual sessions in an interest group and a brief written report; the first draft of our report for feedback at Interim Meeting on June 26; and a full report, with chance for feedback from everyone, at the Called Session of PYM on Saturday, October 11, 2003, at the Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia.
