An unusual and very pleasant surprise appeared on the opening day of Yearly Meeting sessions in the form of a lovely crocheted afghan. This was a gift from Bill Daly of Middletown Friends Meeting at Langhorne (PA), who had kept his hands busy during long business meetings completing the afghan. His comment upon being thanked was that he hoped other PYM members might think about doing the same.
Over 145 knitted squares completed during Yearly Meeting sessions were turned in on the closing day. When sewn together, they will form about two bright and colorfully designed afghans for distribution by the American Friends Service Committee.
A photo album of completed afghans from previous years was available at Yearly Meeting. One or two members of PYM said they recognized the squares they had knitted. I hope you saw yours!
Donations of leftover and unused yarns were much appreciated. Anyone wishing to knit or crochet squares for afghans may at any time pick up yarn, knitting needles, or crochet hooks at the AFSC warehouse at Friends Center in Philadelphia. People are needed to sew the squares together to make complete afghans. Ask for Rodney Jones at the AFSC Emergency and Material Assistance Program, 215-241-7052.
