Many Friends remember the wildly popular tours of Philadelphia's rich Quaker history led by Michael Van Hoy, formerly of PYM staff. The tours are back and you can arrange one for a group from your Meeting!
Where exactly is the elm tree under which William Penn and the Lenni Lenape leaders smoked, smiled, snacked and eventually "signed" the famous treaty? How many times was Betsy Ross of "the Fightin' Quakers" read out of meeting? Visit the site of Pennsylvania Hall where Lucretia Mott and hundreds of other women abolitionists were nearly burned to death for their views. These tours are lots of fun and suitable for all ages. For information on arranging The Quaker History Tour, contact Judy Van Hoy at Friends Workcamp Program, workcamps@pym.org or 215-241-7236.
