My visit to Doylestown Meeting (PA) on January 26 was a great pleasure. Their librarian, Debie Crosman, has done a terrific job of organizing a small collection into very user-friendly, efficient, well stocked shelves which are being well used by the members and new attenders of Doylestown Meeting. Debie has used booklets from the Church and Synagogue Library Association, as well as guidance from PYM Library, to help her work out the best and simplest way to offer the spiritual ministry of good books to her Meeting. She has augmented her book budget using free Quaker books from PYM Librarys storage shelves. Books for adults are kept on one end of the Monthly Meeting room, separate from the childrens books which are kept in the First Day School rooms. Doylestown Meeting is situated a few blocks from a large public library, and she has restricted the Meeting collection to Quaker books.
Lehigh Valley Meeting (PA) also has a fine library, managed by librarian Christy Roysdon. She regularly uses PYM Library books to augment her collection and offer a steady flow of new books to her members. Christy will be sharing her experience of how this works for her at the Library workshop on Thursday, March 27, during Yearly Meeting sessions.
There are a number of fine libraries in other Meetings. All Meeting librarians and others working with the ministry of books are invited to participate in the Library workshop.
