Tom Hoopes, currently PYM Coordinator of Education Programs, has been appointed to the new position of Director of Education and Religious Education effective May 1. Tom is a member of Central Philadelphia Meeting and also active in Valley Meeting (PA), where his family has been involved for generations. He has a graduate degree in education and extensive experience in education and youth work.
In his new position, Tom will provide coordination, support, strategic vision and direction for the projects and services of PYM in the areas of Education and Religious Education. He will serve as supervisor for Young Friends Program Coordinator Cookie Caldwell, Middle School Friends Program Coordinator Melanie Douty, Administrative Assistant for Religious Education Mary Anne Crowley, Administrative Assistant for Education Elke Muller, and the Religious Education Program Coordinator soon to be hired to support Meeting First-day Schools and the Yearly Meeting Childrens Program (see Friends Employment Opportunities).
In announcing the internal promotion, PYM General Secretary Thomas Jeavons said, Given how well Tom has performed in his current position, all the qualifications he brings to the post, his exceptional knowledge of our organizations and PYM's culture and peculiarities, and the vision he has for this work, it seems to me he deserves to have this opportunity and that we will be well served by his taking it.

Gretchen Castle of Doylestown Meeting (PA) will continue as Interim Director of Religious Education through April to allow for a smooth transition. We have been blessed to have her, and I am deeply grateful for her continuing service, Thom Jeavons said.
