Thirty-two young people and parents recently participated in the annual Middle School Friends “Simplicity Gathering.” This year it was held in cooperation with Wellsboro Meeting in north-central Pennsylvania. Robby and Kathleen England of Glenfiddich Farm hosted us with hospitality and warmth we will never forget. They and the Wellsboro Meeting community shared their expertise in sustainable agriculture and biodiversity, fiber arts and basket weaving through enjoyable workshops and walks. The section of the 150-acre farm we were on, and the view of the valley stretched out around us, was stunning. A deep peace was felt there. Adorable kittens were our constant companions, their sweet faces often seen poking out of people’s jackets. Sledding after breakfast on Saturday was a highlight.
Saturday night we were joined by Meeting members and local Mennonite families and treated to a lively contra dance with music by the Cherry Flats Ridge Pluckers. The next morning we returned to The Irvin Comstock School for Wellsboro’s meeting for worship, with the resonance of the dance music still in the air. We are all deeply grateful for the generosity of the England family, who opened their home to us.
