The annual meeting of Friends Historical Association will be Monday evening, November 11, at the 4th and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia. Christopher Densmore, Curator of Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College, will speak on "Be Ye Perfect: Anti-Slavery and the Progressive Friends of Chester County, Pennsylvania."
This year is the 150th Anniversary of the Progressive Separation in Western Quarterly Meeting which resulted in the formation the following year of the Pennsylvania Yearly Meeting of Progressive Friends (Longwood). Christopher Densmore's talk explores the
controversies over abolitionism and church government among Hicksite Friends in Chester County, Pennsylvania, that led to the establishment of Longwood Meeting and examines the early history of Longwood Yearly Meeting.
