We welcome Eddie Henderson as a new maintenance person for the Fourth and Arch Street Meeting House in Philadelphia. He is a familiar face to some Friends because he was a parking lot attendant during Yearly Meeting for the past few years. He started working full time for PYM on August 19.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, Eddie grew up in the Richard Allen community. As a youth he attended afterschool programs at Friends Neighborhood Guild; his two older sons went to a preschool program there. For the past 13 years, Eddie has been involved in the work of the Original Richard Allen Committee Inc., a nonprofit organization serving the neighborhood bounded by Girard, Broad, Spring Garden and 9th streets. The committee has adopted the Spring Garden Elementary School, mentoring the fifth graders and taking schoolchildren on monthly outings at an annual cost of $15,000. The committee hosts a free picnic for the public each August at Lemon Hill in Fairmount Park and also holds an annual dinner for senior citizens.
Eddie takes the staff position of Sam Chamberlain, a member of Central Philadelphia Meeting, who has moved back to Ohio with his family. Eddie didn't want his picture published.
